Agony. Ecstasy. Whatever... it'll be raw nekkid emotion. The pregame show is on, Don Cherry has mouthed off (leaving 95% of the USA sayin' "Who the Hell was THAT?" to themselves), and we're minutes away from puck drop. Our beer is poured, the cigar is lit and we're ready for some HOCKEY!
Update: Oh Shit, Oh Dear. Milbury is giving us "Hockey For Dummies." Puh-leeze. Don't patronize us. We don't need it. We don't want it. STFU.
1320: Game On! You'd think I was playing given my heartbeat!
1324: Luuuu makes his first save.
1326: BIG pressure by USA!
1332: Miller makes a big save on a turnover by Backes. Yow.
1334: Scramble in front of the Canada net. Luuuu dodges a bullet.
1336: The replay shows the puck RIGHT on the goal line. Bullet, indeed!
1339: Toews puts it in the net... Canada draws first blood.
1342: Ryan called for tripping; Canada goes on the PP.
1345: Great PK by USA; USA forecheck is aggressive and effective.
1352: Kesler puts a vicious hit on a Canadian; I think he dodged a bullet coz it looked to me like he left his feet on that hit. End of the first and a gathering of the clans along the boards... Johnson doin' some SERIOUS trash talking! Ooooh-wie! Beer me!
Update 1410: Underway in the seond. Prosit!
Aiiieee. Canada on the powerplay. NOT good.
1414: Another excellent PK, and USA goes on the PP!
1415: Our game? Rafalski's shot goes way wide, crowd goes "Luuuu!" Sheesh.
1416: F*ck. Perry scores, 2 -0 Canada.
1419: Toews off for tripping, USA on the PP. Let's go, Guys!
1427: USA puts it in on a deflection. LUUU! Kane gets the goal, 2 - 1 Canada.
1429: Rafalski makes a beautiful diving defensive play... saves a possible goal!
1436: MILLER!
1438: I can't keep track of the chances... it's up and back, up and back. Great chances on both sides, both goalies are standing on their heads.
1440: End of the second, SOG are nearly even at 23 - 25 in favor of the Canucks. The third will be INTENSE.
1451: Awaiting the third and the patented Canadian Collapse. (insert big-ass grin here)
1455: Here we go. Do or die!
1457: Clink! The posts are your friend, Ryan!
1501: Miller saves the day. Again.
1505: OK, I'll say sumthin' nice. LUUUU!
1511: HUMONGOUS pressure by Team USA... LUUUU has to cover. This is about as intense a game as I've EVAH seen!
1521: Sid The Kid on a breakaway but lost control of the puck. No heroics here.
1525: EVERYTHING rides on this face-off. Dang... 1:05 left... out of play, faceoff in the Canadian zone. And Canada calls a timeout.
1528: YES! YES! YESSSSS! TIE GAME!
1530: Can it get any better? Can it? Yes, it can... USA for the WIN!
1535: Roenick and company are pretty good right now. It pains me to admit that, but it's true.
1540: Somehow I missed Parise's Ovechkin into the glass impression. How very freakin' cool.
1550: My heart! My heart!
1552: Dang. I think I can hear GM Place from here.
1553: Well, Dang. And it had to be freakin' CROSBY. Anyone but Crosby. DANG. Congrats, Canada. You get braggin' rights, KC. Just don't rub it in TOO much.
1558: And thank you ALL for watching this with me... you made my day.
Update last: It kinda hurts... watching the medal presentation. But ya gotta give it to the Canadian fans for their ovation when Miller got his Silver. But know this: this is a YOUNG Team USA, and we'll be back. This was a near-run thing, and it could have easily been USA for the gold. You KNOW this is true. 2014: Sochi. I'll be there.
Postscript: Break out the beer and the cigars!
this is INTENSE!
ReplyDeleteNO kidding! I'm lovin' it!
ReplyDeleteAARGH!
ReplyDeleteLotta hockey left, WWW! PK looks good so far.
ReplyDeleteDon Cherry has mouthed off
ReplyDelete[whistle blows]
Verbal redundancy- two minute penalty.

ReplyDeleteLUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi, KC!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the party, crack open a cold one...
1438: I can't keep track of the chances... it's up and back, up and back. Great chances on both sides, both goalies are standing on their heads.
ReplyDeleteTo put it more succinctly, Hockey Worth Watchin'.
When the score's wide open and the only reason to continue watching is to see if Monique is gonna get her hat trick, that's nice but Not Like This...
good lord...i think i'm breathing hard and my heart is racing...2-1 end of two.
ReplyDeleteTHIS is hockey!!
ReplyDeleteI think we all *knew* this game was gonna be like this...
ReplyDeleteNo doubt. This is the way the game should be played.
ReplyDeleteWish I could but I can't. Working at the Village until 3pm... right up til the end of the Game and then running off to the Closing Ceremonies.
ReplyDeleteAAGGHH... its CRAZY at the Village!! With each goal there's a roar... with each shot multitudes of oooh & awwhs! The world at the Village is watching and its insane!! The stress and pressure is soooo thick and intense you could cut it with a knife. My stomach is in knots fer real... I will need a very lllooonng vacation and MANY MANY drinks to get over this whole experience!
I hear ya, KC. Hell, it's intense in here, and I'm all alone, LOL!
ReplyDeleteStand by for the third period Canadian Collapse(TM). ;-)
BUCK!! Mind your manners!
ReplyDeleteSorry, KC. We'll call it the American Surge instead.
:-)
Captcha word: shizin
Guess I'm street-cool, now.
Heh. OK, surge it is!
ReplyDeleteppppft... oook. Here... drink a Canadian beer for a change - does the body good.
ReplyDelete;0)
Wrong folks seem to be surging at the moment...
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of surge... our NBC friends just said it's Canada surging. Heh.
ReplyDeleteSurge is going back and forth in about 45 second increments, IMHO
ReplyDeleteUSA Seems to be skating with weights on their legs this period, both team seemed jet powered for the first two periods.
ReplyDeleteBT: Jimmy T sends.
KC: All=America nere... especially the beer!
ReplyDeleteJimmy: There's Lotsa Hockey Left(TM)!
I'm gonna need a brand new MADE-IN-CANADA nervous system over here!!
ReplyDeleteHoly molly!
Heh. Up and back!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to read the commentary, Buck! Had to DVR the game due to prior committments.
ReplyDeleteI'm at 16:43 in the 2nd.
Anybody got a spare defibrillator?
ReplyDeletecaptcha word: sessness
No kidding! My heart! My heart!
ReplyDeleteBR: Screw the DVR... join it in real-time... coz this is just TOO good!
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm there Buck! That comeback needs to happen soon.
ReplyDeletehehehehe.... oh this is a beautiful thing...
ReplyDeleteOr should I say the Canadian collapse can come any time now?
ReplyDeleteThe empty net scares me. Big time. But waddaya gonna do?
ReplyDeleteI guess it's all or nothing time, huh?
ReplyDeleteOMG i am fighting back tears... OMG OMG OMG
ReplyDeleteAND I KNOW THERE'S NO CRYING IN HOCKEY!!!
ReplyDeleteYesssssssssssssss
ReplyDeleteBout dam time!!!!
ReplyDeleteMADNESS!!! SHEER MADNESS!
ReplyDeleteOMFG.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of a couple of Hurricanes' come-from-behinds.
May the similarities continue.
GAME ON BABY!!!!!! TIED!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think I'm getting too old for this...
ReplyDeleteI'm going to be sick.
ReplyDeleteSeriously.
Oh, MY HEART!
ReplyDeleteINSANE. I can't believe they tied that up with so little left to the game. Go USA!
ReplyDeleteWord Verification gestinco... that describes my stomach watching this game. lol.
HOLY MUD!!!!!!!!! And I could care less about hockey, but THIS -- and now overtime!!! DAMN!!
ReplyDeleteNo kidding, OG! NO KIDDING!
ReplyDeleteThis is as good as it gets, Kath!
ReplyDeleteI need a drink. I wonder if our boys realize how many people are on the verge of heart failure right now?
ReplyDeleteWatching w. sound off & Euro Techno Trance Dance in headphones. Talk about amping up the intensity!!
ReplyDeleteWe will remember this game the way those of us who watched will remember 1980 U.S. v. CCCP.
ReplyDeleteOne of those "where were you when..." moments.
Buckskins... I can't even begin to comprehend how much pressure these guys must feel - either team. I mean SERIOUSLY????????????
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna have to borrow my father's nitro!
Now, now. It's just a game.
ReplyDelete(ducks, runs)
BR: I'm hopin' this shows America the absolute freakin' GOODNESS of hockey!
ReplyDeleteVirgil: You are yer own man, LOL! I gotta admire that!
KC: No matter who wins, this is just the best!
Gordon: You better run!
Hopped over to Facebook for a second and posted this:
ReplyDeleteIf you're not watching US v. Canada hockey gold medal game, you're seriously screwed up. USA ties up with 24 seconds remaining, game goes to sudden death overtime.
Untold number of cardiac incidents occurring all over the North American continent.
KC...I'm sure they do realize. I'll probably get booed by a few folks here, but I'm glad it our two countries in this game. Regardless of the final score, I think everyone can walk away happy.
ReplyDeleteJust that some will be a bit happier than others.
This is total AWESOMESAUCE Buck. I mean seriously... this is what hockey's REALLY about. The best of the best of the at each other for the best there is.
ReplyDeleteNo matter who wins this afternoon - we won (Canada) and I did too by exchanging numbers with a real sweetheart and cutie Irishman (off da boat Irish)... so this is NO loss for me!!! Well.. the only loss I will feel is that of my lunch in mere moments... *burp*
Brilliant, WWW!
ReplyDeleteOK, KC... you win the thread!
ReplyDeleteBR: Agreed. This is as good as it gets, no matter who wins.
The best pitched battles occur between friends, because I'm betting they'll all sit down together (hopefully not on the ice this time) with stogies and a few pints (would that be Buckstyle?).
ReplyDeleteYou can't do that with a team you HATE.
From the wikipedia page for hockey overtime:
ReplyDelete"The US will beat canada, that is all you need to know"
LOL, BR. That is just TOO cool!
ReplyDeleteOops...forgot to capitalize Canada.
ReplyDeleteMy humble apologies.
WWW: What you say is true. We ARE the best of friends.
ReplyDeleteHeh...that was shortlived. It's gone now.
ReplyDeleteArrgghhh...I can't take this!
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid to breath I am blue.
ReplyDeleteWait. No.. that's my uniform .. but I'm still afraid to breath!!
Lou is leaving big rebounds!
ReplyDelete@KC: I'm having to REMEMBER to breathe...
ReplyDeleteIt had to be Crosby!!!
ReplyDelete@KC: Let me be the first to offer congratulations.
ReplyDeleteOne Helluva Game.
Congrats, KC. Your boys earned it. Couldn't have happened in a better place, either.
ReplyDeleteBreak out those emergency condoms they are going to need them!!
ReplyDeleteOMFG... Sid the Kid came thru.
ReplyDeleteSorry boys. Hockey IS Canada's game.
Line up to the right to kiss our ....
;0)
Congrats, darn it. That was great to see.
ReplyDeleteNo butt kissing necessary, I don't think, tho!
OK... very unfriendly on my part... What an unbelieveable game. To the very end. Very end.
ReplyDeleteYour boys are AMAZING... great job USA... you made us earn our gold!
Good on ya, KC. And appreciated, too.
ReplyDeleteNow off to the Closing Ceremonies... seriously what a way to end my Olympic Experience. What a way... I'm crying.
ReplyDeleteNext time, Buck, why not do a real liveblogging link that auto-refreshes?
ReplyDeleteKC, I think your entitled to gloat. Lord knows the rest of us would be had the outcome been different.
ReplyDeleteWell, I would WWW, if I knew how. ;-)
ReplyDeleteNah, BR. We would have been gracious. Easy for me to say, eh?
ReplyDeleteI spose, Buck.
ReplyDeleteI'm just glad it ain't the Rooskies in there.
Agreed, BR. Agreed!
ReplyDeleteI think the Penguins need to trade Crosby to the North, though.
ReplyDeleteWell, I put the idea in your head; you know how to Google...there are places where you can set up a liveblog for free.
ReplyDeleteOr we could run a couple of OC3s into Casa de Movil Pennington :-)
Heh, WWW! I'd like that!
ReplyDeleteAwwwww!!!! Listen to the medal cheer for Miller...THAT is classy Canada! you earned it! and i suppose i'll start watching more hockey now...so yeah, it worked on me...and probably hundreds of thousands of other Americans.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Piper. I quite watching regularly after the strike...but I must confess a renewed interest.
ReplyDeleteNot the way I hoped this would end. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteWordy thingy is "dengot" and that is close to what I said when Craps... opps, Crosby scored that goal.
The data networking guys at The Large Company I Work For could certainly arrange it with proper funding--
ReplyDeleteHowever, beer and cigars wouldn't cut it, I'm afraid...
Well I'm a bitter man and a sore loser, :) but I've watched a lot of Hockey over the years and I do believe that is one of the most consistently end-to-end intense, fast-paced, hockey games I've ever watched. Just a shame it had to end that way. But just remember, 1/3 of America fled to Canada during the Revolutionary War, so we can console ourselves that we largely lost to ourselves.. :)
ReplyDeleteMiller got MVP, in case you didn't hear.
ReplyDeleteI did hear... thanks. Here's the whole list:

I.Am.SPENT.
ReplyDeleteBut man oh man... its a wonderful time to be Canadian!!! Craziness! The celebrating is still going on downtown, where I fled because my legs were about to give out from underneath me! Too many mornings up at 4:30am just to make it to work... and late nights.
I'm gonna sleep. And revel in the fact that I did something, I was a part of something that transformed my country. I had Canadian pride before but this... this is unbelieveable. I've cried sooo much with pride. Something happened to our country because of what the Games - something that I had an important hand in. And what the Games did for me - I will never ever forget, and will forever remember these moments as challenging and incredibly rewarding.
I was here.
I helped make it happen.
And I felt it.
Because... I believed.
Thank you fellow bloggers for coming along with me on this incredible journey. Thank you.
Heh! I'm glad you hockey homers enjoyed it all. Seriously!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the Canadians, and our boys, too.
This is comment #106. Is that a record?
KC: Good job, Girl. And thank YOU for your posts on the games and the time you spent here with us!
ReplyDeleteAndy: Yeah, this is a record for comments and I'll prolly never see this many ever again... unless and until Sochi (if I live that long). ;-)
