Today's Happy Hour Soundtrack

Well, we gave it the ol' college try, which is to say we took our first beer on the verandah today.  We shall take our second indoors, coz while the weather was tolerable it most certainly wasn't comfortable.  We could have handled it were it not for the cold, cold breeze and the overcast, what with it being barely 59 degrees outside, if that.  The Stones provided our soundtrack, chief among the selections being this:

We have to say the imagery in this vid is just too cute by half.  But it ain't the images we're on about... it's the music.  And the lyrics.
Making love and breaking hearts
It is a game for youth
But I'm not waiting on a lady
I'm just waiting on a friend
Friends are hard to find, yanno?  That said... the lyrics to the Stones' songs are just one of the reasons I think they are the greatest rock 'n' roll band the world has ever seen or will ever see.  The playin' comes first, of course, but their lyrics do contain some of the greatest truths ever put on tape.  "It's only rock 'n' roll," after all.  But I like it.

Here's a completely unrelated musing: the bronze game is this evening... which brings up a horrifying thought... whatever shall we do after Sunday when this hockeyfest ends?  Aiiieee!

Update, later that same day:  Well... just one more and then we'll go...

One of our faves, this.  And now it's time for a nap.  After which we shall do dinner and hockey.  Dang but life is hard these days.

  1. Weather here is kind of janky, too. Can't quite enjoy it. Still, feels like time for a beer.

About the hockey - I had the very same thought yesterday. Then I realized that I am actually pretty excited about my Avs getting back in action (with gold medal winner Paul Stastny in the lineup).

And by the way, I've been all over your live-blogging of the games. This has been my go-to site for Olympic hockey action.

  2. Well, weather aside, you have just made my day with this comment, Andy. MUCH appreciated. Thanks!

  3. Queen - anything by Queen is righteous.

  4. The only real problem with the Stones is they weren't that great with their playing. Good lyrics, but instrumentals were somewhat lacking.

Still classics, better living through chemistry and all.

I'm frustrated by the poor coverage of the hockey games where I live. How do you not have any option to watch that last game which lead to the gold medal round? Honestly, I think the network is run by liberals. ;)

  5. What Andy said about the weather up here. Still managed to get some riding in. Enjoying my Pendleton indoors however.

Maybe it's a generational thing, but I've never been a big Stones fan. A song here and there, perhaps, but nothing that really gets me going.

I'm stoked about tomorrow's game...pulling for Finland for the Bronze.

  6. Ah, Old Goater... respectfully disagree. KR might be the best rhythm guitarist alive, and Mick Taylor's couple o' few albums with the Stones were some of their best ever. See: "Sticky Fingers." But..."better living thru chemistry," indeed!

I'm sorry you're not getting good hockey coverage where you live. But I'm not all that surprised.

BR: Things ain't lookin' good for the Finns at the end of the second. I'm agnostic in this one... just enjoying the hockey and sippin' the single malt. Cheers!!

  7. I take it back, BR... Finland just tied it up, with lotsa hockey left!

  8. And they take the lead two minutes later! Slovakia needs to stay out of the box...

  9. My rooting for Finland lies in the fact that Slovakia (formerly of Czechoslovakia) was once part of the Red Menace. Cold War habits die hard (at least for me).

  10. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Czechs and Slovaks, ever since the Prague Spring. I was a young Staff Sergeant then, wonderin' if the Cold War was gonna get hot!

  11. Thanks for the history lesson, Buck. I was but a wee lad of 2 in 1968.

Good to see they stood up for themselves, even if it ended badly.

  12. Whoa! This is gettin' intense!

I should be rooting for Finland... Filppula plays for the Wings.

  14. Heh. Speaking of Filppula...

  16. Yes, indeed. But the real Show is tomorrow, eh?

  17. Absolutely! I have a post queued up for midnite, wherein I get off the fence and predict a USA win. But don't tell anyone, LOL!

  18. It'll be our secret, Buck. I've been feeling 1980 all over again, since day one.

If I recall correctly, we just Andy in Louisiana to root for the Canucks, right?

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
