Putting Our Money Where Our Mouth Is...

I've been engaged in some friendly conversation over the last couple o' few with Blog-Bud Morgan and various members of his commentariat about what constitutes "beauty"... in the popular image sense... in our culture of late.  And I've been on the losing end of the argument, for the most part.  I'll not flog the dead horse here (much), if'n you're interested in the discussion you're free to join in at the links. The Readers Digest version is I find substantial women much more attractive than the air-brushed, plastic-boobed, anorexic "visions of beauty" foisted upon us by the fashion biz.  Damn those people, anyway.

Now... that said... I was just watching Neil Cavuto's show on FNC and he did an interview with a "plus-size" model who is featured in V Magazine's "Curves Ahead" issue that should be on the newsstands in short order.  A sample:
Pretty enticing, eh?  The model is jes a lil too "made up" for my tastes, but we'll let that slide.  We're on about body types here, not make-up skillz.  There are more pictures here... if'n ya can stand the incredibly slow speed of the site.  I got so damned many time-outs when trying to step through the image layout at the link I almost canceled this post.  Their webmaster needs to do a LOT of work to get this site up to speed.  Heh.

  1. Aside from too much face paint, I think this model looks pretty sweet.

Young ladies of today should feel a little better about themselves and ignore what the so called fashion industry says about what perfection might be.

Ever notice that the designers of "High Fashion Ladies'" shoes tend to not like women?

  2. Agreed on the mae-up, Darryl. Other than that, she's right in MY sweet-spot.

  3. Men get flanked for liking 'bigger' women. Men get flanked for liking thin women.

Bigger women apparently hate all thin women. And many thin women resent big women.

At the end of the day... let's face it: since when have American's changed their opinions on bigger is better? Or was that just in Texas?

Women get flanked for liking pretty boys. Women get flanked for liking meatheads. Women get flanked if they like anything but the man who is veyying for her attention.

It goes both ways. And it sucks. But take it from this plus-sized chick... thank you for having an appreciation for more than skin and bones. Just because we have more than others, doesn't make us unattractive or unhealthy. It simply makes us different than average. And I personally - don't care for being just... average.

That it does... suck. I agree with what you said at the other post on this subject, KC. It's what's inside that really matters, in the final accounting. That said, we men tend to be pretty visual in the initial stage of the dance, and I know what turns MY head.

You know what... so are women. I know we all say NO WE AREN'T but we are. There has to be something usually its the external that captures our attention - even if perhaps not to the same extent at men do it. But there has to be something externally that captures our attention long enough to get to the internal. Perhaps it happens faster than men... but women do the same thing.

    We all have our preferences!

  6. Interesting, KC. It's a a rare woman who will admit to that tendency, but we all know it exists. I find it refreshing when a woman comes right out and admits it. ;-)

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
