Under the WX and One Other Minor Moan

I had a restless night and didn’t sleep well at all. I finally figured out what the Hell was going on around 0530 hrs this morning: I hurt. This wasn’t a dreadful, all-encompassing sort of pain but more of a low level deal centered in my lower back and thighs. So… I rolled out, took a couple of Aleves, fired off the coffee pot, and waited for the Aleves to kick in. I drank half the pot before the pain went away and then thought it a good idea to return to bed. And so I did.

I was awakened from a moderately good sleep about 20 minutes ago by the sound of my awning flapping and banging in the considerable breeze. Our wind subsided quite a bit yesterday, which allowed me to put the awning down and keep it down until just a few minutes ago. Alas, the wind has returned and it will be another 90-degree sort of day. But there is a silver sort of lining: it’s completely overcast. Ergo, no direct sun on El Casa Móvil De Pennington this afternoon.

Thank God for small favors.

I shall now return from whence I came: au lit. I hope this ain’t the flu or something like it. I kinda doubt it, though. More than likely it’s just simple creakiness due to Old Age… which ain’t for sissies.

Just so your visit here today isn’t a complete waste, here’s another photo from times past, specifically 10/20/2006:
Today’s Pic: Riotous color in a Santa Fe outdoor market - June, 2004. As always, click the pic for the larger version. In this case, you most definitely should look at the larger pic.
I need to get back up that way... soon.

  1. Hey Buck,
Nomenclature Time: Wouldn't the epicenter of that pain between the lower back and thighs be known officially as your Democrat? (Donkey)

    Stay well...

    Hope you feel better.

  3. Thank you all. "Things" are a mite better, even as we speak.

  4. Swell colors, but what in heck is up with that tiger? I can't quite figure out if he's standing on two legs, or there are four, or is that his tail that's so ballooned out? I like tigers, in general, but this guy has something not quite right happening :-)

  5. Glad you are feelin' better, Buck.

OH, Boy...Suldog gets a price for observation... definitely something happening with Tigger unless "we" have a skewed perception... :)!

  6. I love that photo with all its color. It is paintable. I hate it when some odd pain keeps me awake. We drank left over margaritas last night, and I slept like a log.

  7. Leftover margaritas? Who has leftovers of margaritas?

    Gorgeous pic!

Hope things are better! If not, I hope they're better soon!

  8. Lovely colours. I hope you feel better soon. I had the flu recently myself, natsogood.

I don't know why but I love being woken up by the weather - storms, wind, rain. It's comforting in a funny sort of way.

  9. You're right, "Old age ain't no place for sissies!" I can attest to the truthfulness of that statement. The game has just started and I hope you're still felling better. ENJOY!! Maybe a little snort of something will help..

  10. Buck, hope this finds things continuing to improve!

  11. Buck, sounds like "general malaise" to me!! I get it too every now and then and hate it every time. Maybe the Wings winning that big beer mug will make you feel better!!

I love that picture, been there too and as funny as it sounds, I actually visited the place for the first time as a tourist when I brought my Wife there for her first visit. I had never been into Old Town Plaza itself while I lived there. Great Place.

  12. Santa Fe in June is a great antidote to the heat and winds of Portales. There's some very good, and inexpensive, Mexican food there if you can get the locals to tell you where it is.

  13. Jim and Ann: My take on the tiger/Tigger is all four legs are on the ground and its tail is upright. But yeah: weird.

Lou: I'm with Moogie... "left over margs?" How DOES that happen? :D

Alison: I normally don't mind being woken up by weather, either. It's just when I have to do something immediately that I take issue, which, in this case, was save my awning. I hate to do ANYTHING before I've had my coffee, let alone get dressed and run outside.

SuzieQ: Alas, things didn't go our way tonight and we'll have a Game Seven. I really wanted to see the Wings nail it tonight, because Game Sevens are just so damned unpredictable... especially between teams that seem so evenly matched at this point.

Kris: Things got pretty good by mid-afternoon. I even went outside in the maelstrom and had a couple of beers and a cigar. The neighbors must think I'm nuts... if they think about me at all.

Jimmy: Yeah, Old Town is a fun place to walk around. There are some good restaurants (albeit pricey ones) in the area, as well!

Gordon: We have some pretty danged good Mexican food right here in P-Ville. When I go to Santa Fe or ABQ I usually go for the stuff we don't have, like Thai, Japanese, a good steakhouse, or French.

Buck, you say that like it's a bad thing. I find cultivating a little bit 'o the crazies very helpful for maintaining peace & privacy at home.

  15. Kris: I hear what you're saying and didn't mean for that to sound like a bad thing, LOL! I wear my weirdness with pride. :D

  16. That market looks exquisite. I bet there were a few good restaurants overlooking the square, too.

I could stand a nice leisurely stroll through such a pretty place, especially in the flower market. I've got a regular jones for fresh flowers.

  17. Daphne: You're right about all of that, especially the restaurants. There ARE some good ones there!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
