Watched the third half there, thinking of you and the nipper.
Ah well, suddenly all the teams for '10 are UNDEFEATED!
That goal just missed by deflection off the bar was amazing-- football's been called a "game of inches." That was a matter of microns. A few microns of paint thickness, and it would have angled in, tieing (sp?) the game.
Ya, Bob... that crossbar shot was hard to take. Had it gone in, the momentum might have changed. But that's hockey. Sometimes you get the breaks, sometimes you don't.
Virgil: re: better or worse? That's hard to say, what with the cap. I'm thinking Detroit might want to change their mind about signing Hossa to a long-term deal, though. Talk about a guy who didn't come through when the chips were down... I'm thinking his value just dropped like the frickin' stock market did last November.
All that said, I'm thinking the Wings will be no worse than they were this year, assuming a lot of the guys who go into free agent status are signed.
Thanks, Deborah. It's really very danged hard to make it to the Finals. That's hockey. We will have our hopes next year, though.
Buckskins: It's way too damned early for me to be happy for Michelle, or any other Pens fan... for that matter. Maybe tomorrow. Or the next day. It was all I could do to write this very brief post.
It was a good season, all things considered. Amazing how you can feel like none of it mattered when you lose "the big one."
All in all, in the morning light, things are looking a little better. I'm with you on Hossa...let him go.
I'm off to work, my own "big game" is this upcoming week and I'm Babcock. We're not the underdogs, we're the heavy favorites and it's my job to make sure our young Airmen "play" to their potential.
No champagne at the "Serengetti Bar and Veldt Lounge" last night.
The Penguins really tightened up their team work and the Wings seemed to forget how to work together. There were too many hard earned centering shots passing through the crease to find no Red Wing to chip it in.
I was bummed. The Spousal Unit was crushed, so we didn't even watch the Cup Presentation.
Great series, to say the least. And what great fans at the Joe. Hockey fans in general. Nothing but cheers and applause for the visiting victors (though Bettman didn't fare quite as well, and MAJOR props to the WIngs fans for that!).
Cynthia: Thank ya, Ma'am. It was a tough one, indeed. We're well into the "morning after" and unlike SN1, I'm still not over it.
Buck: Well said.
Darryl: You're right on the thing about the Wings not going to the net. Fleury DID give up a lot of juicy rebounds last night, too. There were few Wings in front of the crease to take advantage, tho. (sigh)
I watched the Cup presentation, even though my heart was breaking.
Lou and Kris: Thank you both.
Andy: It WAS a great series. As a matter of fact the playoffs in their entirety were great this year... the best I've seen in YEARS.
It was brutal to watch the last 4 minutes of that game. So very hard!!
ReplyDeleteBT: Jimmy T sends.
I hear ya, Jimmy. Oh, HOW I hear ya. Especially that "off the crossbar" shot at 2:11... not to mention that last flurry. So close -- no cigar.

ReplyDeleteThink the Wings will get better next season--or be worse?
ReplyDeleteDidn't see comment #2 before I submitted. Great minds and all that. Or that I'm on dialup.

Buck---I watched in bits and pieces, and cheered for the Red Wings on your behalf. Next year, man. Next year.
ReplyDeleteSorry for your loss, bud...but their always next year.
ReplyDeleteBut you have to know that Michelle is on cloud nine right about now.

Buck - stopped by to give you a shoulder... tough one.

The Penguins earned it.
We had other plans last night, but my thoughts were with you.
ReplyDeleteOh dear. For sports fans I know this is heartbreaking.
ReplyDeleteSorry.

Amen to that, Buck
ReplyDeleteVery sorry for your loss. Better luck next year!
