Remember Al Sleet?

Ol Al's apparently at work out at the Cannon AFB WX shop this morning... Here's what we look like, according to The WX Channel:

Reality:

And... Heeeere's AL!

And now I'm gonna pour my first cup. Back in a bit.

  1. So the weather channel says it's 26 degrees, but Cannon Wx has you at 74? Wha?

Forgive me if the Carlin link would have cleared up my confusion, as it is blocked here at work.

  2. The Weather Channel gets its Portales report from Cannon... unless Cannon is down. The back-up site is Clovis airport. So, I'm assuming Cannon is reporting 26 degrees.

The Carlin clip is his "Al sleet, the Hippy-Dippy Weatherman" routine... famous tag-line: "Al's been into the mushrooms again..."

  3. Your first out of twelve daily cups? (That still amazes me!)
It's been in the nineties and muggy here. Ugh. I can't wait to leave!

  4. Well... it's a 12-cup pot, according to the gradations on the side. In reality it's only six mugs. ;-)

90 and muggy? Ouch. Sounds like Biloxi, MS!

  5. "...only six mugs...90 and muggy?" Is that some sort of humor?

  6. Maybe you got my weather report...which started at 44 at 5:30 a.m. It is now (noon) down to 36 and snowing like it means it...was really hoping for rain.

I guess, though I am glad it is not 26 with 100% humidity as Cannon suggests.

Hee- mugs vs "cups" - I think they count a "cup" as 6 ounces which depending on your mug is about 1/2 a mug. I remember my folks using "cup and saucer" when I was a kid but I've been a mug girl for as along as I can remember :)!

  7. I saw that on my WX thingie this morning as well and wondered what was up with that. Thought it was MY computer doing funky things. Glad to know it wasn't just me. I almost left the house with a heavy coat on! LOL! (not really, but I did do a double take before I realized that we slept with the windows open last night).

  8. JUST now getting my mistake on that. I didn't pay any attention to the ICAO (KCVS) on that second report. I assumed they were both from Cannon, hence my confusion.

  9. Lou: Well... now that you mention it, Yeah!

Ann: The snow WILL stop at some point, no? ;-)

S'funny... my 'rents were cup and saucer types, too. My father moved to mugs later on in life and I only saw the cup and saucer thing on their table for formal occasions as time went on. It's been pretty much the same for me, as well... although I don't own cups and saucers any longer. They didn't make the cut when I downsized life...

Jenny: I did a double-take this morning, too! Especially considering I woke up around 0945 and it was already quite warm... even with the windows open. Last night was the first night I've slept with the windows open this year... and it was GREAT!

  10. Andy: Understandable, that. You'd have to look at the second graphic pretty close to "get" it.

  11. Moogie: I continue to be amazed at YouTube. Al Sleet was the very first thing I thought of this morning when I saw that wildly inaccurate weather thingie. And I found Carlin's routine in about six seconds on YouTube. Ain't technology GRAND?

  12. I can just look at George Carlin and start laughing. In my opinion, he was one of the funniest guys who ever lived. I miss him.

  13. Sharon: I miss him a lot, too!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
