Irony... Much?

Via a tweet from Blog-Bud Cynthia... a screen-shot of PeTA's "Sea Kittens" site:

This is just too danged rich for words. All I can muster is a hearty LOL! (Omaha Steaks apparently sponsors the main PeTA site, as well. I just clicked over there from the Sea Kittens site... and the banner stayed put. Selling one's soul for advertising bucks... it's the American Way, innit?)

  1. Hee...

I expected a rotating ad of some sort... It really appears to be a placed ad.

I saw a reference to Sea Kittens on another blog and thought it was a joke. Is it a joke? - because I think it's pretty funny.

  2. How ironic and funny! Do you think PeTa cannot find anyone else to advertise on their site?

  3. OGM what a hoot!! That is like a Catholic site advertising for condoms!

  5. Hi Buck! You know I have been an avid fisherwoman. You know that I LOVE animals. You know that I would never ever ever intentionally hurt an animal/fish/bird. (Do spiders and skeeters count?) This is just too much. I will have to give up my wicked ways, no more sea kitten hunting for me! I think I will now have to become a vegetarian. (Vegan?) Now, wait... do plants have feelings? Good lord? I've been ripping weeds out of my garden! Cutting the heads off of all the grass in my yard... sometimes twice a month in the summer! Oh the humanity!

  6. I have to say, either it was some kind of hoax, or they have removed the ad. Can't see it if I google peta sea kittens, and then follow the link. Also, clicking the link you provided in your post and then trying to follow the Omaha Steaks ad gives me an error of "offer validation failed." Don't know what to think. I do know that if the internet has taught me anything, it is that irony this gratifying is almost never genuine.

Nope it's real. And REAL funny, too!

Lou: I dunno... but I sure as Hades wouldn't want to be associated with them.

    Dale: True!

Dawn: I've heard Omaha Steaks are good but have no experience. But the pic sure is great, innit?

Alison: Too many deep thoughts there for me to address! It's just a terrible thing when your values are called into question, innit? ;-) <===BIG ol' grin.

Andy: I don't think it was a hoax... it worked last night. But then again, I was half-asleep when I posted the screenshot after visiting the site (long boring story, that... involving intermittent sleep and sleeplessness). If the ad is gone today it's probably because PeTA took it down after someone told 'em about it.

Not that I'm hell-bent on debunking this thing, but, well I guess I am. In case anybody needs to hear it: PETA sucks and I love eating animals.

  10. You win, Andy! But, Hey!! It was a GREAT, not merely good, hoax.

And it really made me want a big, thick, juicy, rare steak...

  11. Ok, now I'm hungry. Not to mention just a wee bit thirsty on this Friday afternoon.

  12. I'm of the opinion that PETA should be abbreviated as PITA, 'cause they ARE a pain in the ass!

  13. Christina: Agreed. But PeTA does have lotsa humor value, tho.

  14. I love PETA: People Eating Tasty Animals. LOL!!!

I'm sure the real PETA would just LOVE to come visit me sometime, wouldn't they? The Omaha Steak ad was still there a second ago when I clicked on this site. Quite ironic. LOL!

  15. I'm thinking most PeTA-people have NEVER left the city, Jenny, and would have NO idea what a working farm or ranch looks like. It's just my gut telling me that, tho. I could be wrong... but I doubt it.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
