Our friends in The Great White Up get a three day jump on us when it comes to national celebrations. I don’t have a problem with that… none at all. I DO have a great admiration for Canada and things Canadian… most especially Labatt’s, Molson’s, and that greatest of ALL Canadian gifts to the world… hockey.
I want also want to thank Canada for their contributions to the fight in Afghanistan. The Canadians have fought valiantly and nearly unnoticed, for the most part, outside of their borders. And they have suffered casualties that, in proportion to their population, far outstrip the casualties American forces have taken. I shudder to think how we Americans would react if our casualties were proportionate to those of the Canadians.
Thank You, Canada. And Happy Birthday!

Happy Canada Day!
ReplyDeleteI, too, am grateful for the Canadian military - truly fine warriors. They have given much to keep us all safe and free!
You know that I loved my Canada visit and would go back in a heart beat to see more. If I had a Grasshopper beer, I would drink a toast. I guess, I will just have to settle for some wheat beer.
ReplyDeleteJenn sez: Just four years ago I could wear that same outfit, and then I moved here and got knocked up...hahaha !
ReplyDeleteAh, well... that's the natural progression of things, ain't it? ;-)
I liked your post yesterday, Jenn. Lotsa cool pics and things to remind us Yanks about who Canadians really are.
Cynthia: You, of all my daily reads, are probably more in touch with what the Canadian Forces are doing than anyone else I know.
Lou: You certainly DID have a good time in Calgary, and I enjoyed your posts and photos, as well. If you DO go back, ya gotta take me!
My best friend from high school married a diplomat in the Canadian Foreign service and has lived in Canada and all over the world for her entire adult life, and she keeps me informed about the Canadian military's role in the was in Afghanistan.
ReplyDeleteCanada has a lot wrong with it - rampant liberalism and socialised medicine --- BUT when it comes to being a good ally in the war and not pulling out when their soldiers die over there -- they have my utmost respect and gratitude.
Becky was talking about Canada today, not so much about the holiday but one of her favorite subjects, beeeyotching about our fiscal policy and how much we suck if the USD declines in value against the canuck funny-money that we can't even call funny-money anymore.
ReplyDeleteNot sure if her graphic came from The Toque, but I sure like it:
