The Late and Oh-So-Abbreviated Saturday Post

It was a major housecleaning day here at El Casa Móvil De Pennington, mostly because of SN1’s imminent arrival, which I believe is supposed to be sometime late tomorrow morning. At any rate… he’s on the road as we speak, having left Beautiful Lost Wages, NV sometime earlier today.

And about that major housecleaning: we wouldn’t want our offspring to think we live like pigs, now, would we? I’m VERY glad whenever visitors come through P-Ville. Incentive, ya know. It’s waaay too easy for me to do that “mañana” thing when it comes to housecleaning. I keep the place reasonably well picked up, dusted, and I do vacuum occasionally. But I did some major work today, such as getting rid of eleventy pounds of old NatGeos, Air Force magazines, and such. It was past time to purge, judging from the heft of the garbage bags I trundled off to the dumpster… and there was more, too. But I’ll not give you the play-by-play of my housecleaning activities.

You’re welcome.

So. All that is done and I finished off a late lunch from Subway about an hour or so ago. About which: as I was getting into the car to leave Subway, a 50-ish woman with a teenager and a couple of dogs in her Subaru pulled into the parking space adjacent to mine. I gave her a polite smile as she got out of her car and she quickly turned her head away from me. That puzzled me for a brief moment, but all was revealed as I backed out of my parking space and got a good long look at the back of her Subaru. The thing was literally covered with moonbat bumper stickers… a pristine “Kerry-Edwards” sticker (obviously well-cared for, maybe even waxed), several flavors of “Bush Lied – People Died” stickers, an Eastern NM U sticker, and an “Honor Teachers!” sticker, among many others. The last of which made me chuckle to myself. I do “honor teachers,” but I most definitely don’t honor those who flagrantly flaunt their ideological immersion, especially those of the “Bush Lied” persuasion. It doesn’t take too much imagination to picture what this woman’s classroom environment is like…

Oh. And why, you may ask, Gentle Reader, did the woman turn away and avoid my smile? I suspect it might have been this:

Ya think?

Today's Question: Why does it seem like it’s always Subarus that are festooned with moonbat shit? You rarely see a Ford or Chevy so adorned, unless it’s over 20 years of age (the car, not the owner).

Discuss.

  1. Hmmm, that is true. About the Subarus. But one thing about P-ville, you don't see very many left-winged bumper stickers (the ones you do see go overboard).

But just because you don't see eye to eye politically is no reason not to return the polite smile. What a rude woman.

Subway. I'm assuming you went to the one on 2nd street. Did you know the one in Walmart is closing down? I think it is moving to Cannon. The one in Walmart is handy, I don't have to make another trip elsewhere in town. But they don't have regular cheetos, so I have to get my chips in the checkout aisle of the store.

Enjoy the visit with your son.

  2. My SIL and her husband own two Subarus... need I say more?

  3. Let's not go too far here, I have owned two over the years, they were very durable and comfortable cars. Both served me well in all weather conditions here in SE PA (I took one down a road that was closed for snow but did not know it till I got to the end where the cops were stationed). Oh, I never once put a sticker on them save my base security sticker!!

    Go Flyers!!!!

The lack of 'bats is a (minor) reason I like ithere, Jenny. I didn't know the Subway in Wally-World was closing... but I always go to the one on 2nd St, anyway. But I can see where the closing is inconvenient for ya.

Were they the relations giving you grief (politically-speaking) over Thanksgiving, Susan?

JimmyT sez: Let's not go too far here, I have owned two over the years...

I most definitely should have qualified my statement, something like "Subarus in warmer climes." I'll just pre-empt the outrage from SN2, who owned two Subarus while he was up in Bath, ME. And there wasn't a sticker on either, other than base decals, AFAIK.

    My apologies, Jimmy! :-)

I AM rooting for the Flyers, ya know. And the B's, too, who just finished up one of the BEST games of the first round, bar none. There will be a game seven in Montreal Monday night. I hope this isn't some sort of omen for the other number one seed, tho... :-)

  5. Ford and Chevy are American made. The Moonbats are anti-American. Not that owning something that is not American made is un-American. But that is not my point.

    Just my two cents.

  6. Buck,
Yeah, the Flyers are hanging in there and I believe they will prevail, same for Detroit. We are getting some great hockey!!! I know you have complained about what hockey coverage you get there in P-ville. We get a good showing here but mainly Eastern Conference teams. We also blessed with other Hockey outlets, several AHL teams in easy drive for us ( the Phantoms and the Hershey Bears are equal distance) and we have ECHL teams (Reading Royals and the Trenton Devils) and of course we have a bunch of hockey rinks all around the area to simply go in and watch a High School game or a couple of Club teams going at it. But still, I do miss NM, the sunsets, the open country, great roads to drive and Bobs Burgers!!!

BTW - both of my Subarus's were Made in Tennessee. Now, my wife drove a Chevy Suburban that was Canadian, and my Mother-in-Law drove a Cadillac that was built in Mexico. Go figure.

  8. I really think it is that right-brain dominance thing again. Apparently courtesy is not an acceptable part of reality for some who let their emotions dominate. Very sad indeed.

  9. Left Wing Idiots are easy to spot on the Highway.....usually in my RV Trips, I pass em' and give them my best "F-U" smile and wave.....and yep they are into Subs and VWs for some strange reason.

re: Great hockey! Wow, you can say THAT again... this is one of the best first-rounds I've seen in years, what with only one sweep in the first round and ALL of the match-ups going to a Game Six out west. You're blessed with all that hockey in your neck of the woods. That was also true for me when I lived in Deetroit... college hockey, lots of amateur leagues, and the local-access cable channels carried pee wee and mite hockey, as well. It's SUCH a hoot to watch the five and six year olds go at it, even if one of your kids aren't playing. I DO miss that, but like you say... there are compensations in the sunsets, good weather (even tho I complain ALL the time about the wind), and most of all: the people.

re: Your point about Subies built in in TN, Cadillacs in Mexico, etc. Not only that, but I've read that something like 40% of the content of GM, Ford, and Chryslers built in the US contain outsourced (foreign) parts... from Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany, etc. Globalization is here to stay, like it or not.

Ashley sez: Not that owning something that is not American made is un-American.

Other folks DO feel that way, unfortunately. I drove a furrin car when I moved to Deetroit and went to work for EDS, a subsidiary of GM at the time. I left my car at work and checked out a pool car whenever I had to visit a GM plant. Coz MY car would get keyed if I parked it in a GM lot. Those UAW guys can be (or were) pretty hard-core about that "Buy American" thing. It may have changed since I left Detroit, but I kinda doubt it.

Lin sez: I really think it is that right-brain dominance thing again. Apparently courtesy is not an acceptable part of reality for some who let their emotions dominate. Very sad indeed.

I think you're right, Lin. And it's not JUST the Left, either, although they tend to take the "art form" to dizzying heights, especially where bumper stickers are concerned. There are MANY more than a few knee-jerk haters on the Right, as well. Not good.

Pat sez: ...and give them my best "F-U" smile and wave

When I was up in Santa Fe a couple of years ago two kids in an older (much older) Mustang went out of their way to pull up alongside me and give me the single-digit salute because of my ONE sticker on my wind blocker. And you guessed it: the rear of THEIR car was fully moonbat-ized.

  11. Mmmm. The rudeness thing might be adequately resolved by Larry Elder's comment, "Conservatives consider liberals well-intentioned, but misguided. Liberals consider conservatives not only wrong, but really, really bad people."

Why do liberals think of conservatives differently from the way conservatives think of liberals? Because their cause is really, really, really glorious.

The Subaru thing? I dunno. I think you might find it dates from the seventies when the "minimal ecological footprint" thing started to come into vogue...can't remember if they used the word "footprint" or not. But the 'baru has certainly had an iconic status for awhile by now.

  12. I drove a Subaru while living in NM - it was a great car being small, engery effecient, room to carry kids and groceries, saddles and such and four-wheel drive. But we traded it off for a Dodge pick-up.

Have fun with SN1. Tell him he can swing by OK - I need an excuse to clean house.

  14. Hey Uncle Buck, tellya what...you make up a sticker with a target surrounding a moonbat with a "Brought to you by the RIGHT WING" somewhere on it and i'll PROUDLY display that on our Toyota Prius Hybrid! Just watch'em twitch!

Agreed, generally speaking. Some liberals make exceptions to this "rule," most don't. I count two Liberals among my very best friends in life, but we generally don't discuss politics.

There's a corollary to Elder's comment, as well... "Conservatives are looking for converts, liberals look for heretics." Same but different.

Lou sez: I drove a Subaru while living in NM - it was a great car being small, energy efficient, room to carry kids and groceries, saddles and such and four-wheel drive.

Once again, my issue isn't with Subies, per se. I like the things for the reasons you and others have stated, Lou. It's just they seem to attract much more than their share of a "certain type."

I like the bumper sticker idea, Jay. And on a Prius? TOO good!!

  16. Living in New England - the bastion of Kennedy's and Kerry's groan, double groan, you can't imagine what I see everyday on the way to work, home from work and just about everywhere else in between. I've stopped paying attention because it's just a blizzard of wah, wah, wah...followed by more blah, blah, blah.

On my car, I don't stick anything. But I do have a magnet that says "Support Victory". Same thing on The Hubby's Jeep.

That's us - clear thinking people trapped in a liberal wasteland. Pray for us.
