"The Enemy of My Enemy...

…is my friend.” I’ll quote the WSJ:

This sentiment has dominated liberal blogs, where a general consensus has formed that Mr. Giuliani would be the worst president imaginable. Mr. Giuliani's decision to include neoconservative icon Norman Podhoretz on his foreign-policy advisory team has also triggered liberal paranoia about his determination to attack Iran. Lost in all the fuss is the fact that Charles Hill, a Yale professor, is actually Mr. Giuliani's top adviser. What Mr. Giuliani and Mr. Hill have both emphasized is that if America makes it clear that it will not hesitate to use military force, diplomacy has a much more realistic chance of succeeding. Not that this line of reasoning would win over any of his critics on the left.

[…]

The Giuliani hate fest has also infiltrated the airwaves, where Keith Olbermann has made bashing Rudy a daily feature on his show. Last Monday, an Olbermann segment entitled "Rudy Giuliani: The next Dick Cheney?" was about Mr. Giuliani's penchant for "secrecy" and "proclivity for executive power..."

This was followed up on Tuesday with a segment that began with a graphic featuring Mr. Giuliani, President Bush in the background and the words "Bush on Steroids"--a reference to John Edwards's comment that Mr. Giuliani shares Mr. Bush's love of "crony capitalism."

Well, now. Aren’t those extremely positive indications, from a conservative’s perspective? But still and even, all you Fred-Heads should take note. Your boy ain’t gettin’ near the negative reax from the moonbats Liberals as Rudy is. And that, my friends, is a sign.

Just in case it isn’t clear: I used the term “enemy” in the title loosely, of course. Coz we’re all Americans…even those willfully misunderstanding (and the self-proclaimed misunderstood, as in “don’t question my patriotism!”) folks on the Far Left Fringe. I think.

Oh. Concerning who it is I'm going to support. I'm still undecided. But the time is coming...

  1. Hate to sound like a broken record, but Fred's worth another look or three. Mr. Thompson has a splinter in his eye and the other Republicans have planks. Rudy, for example -- gun grabber. Surely in any decision-making process where he gets another chance, the next candidate wouldn't be dismissed so quickly for having made a couple of crappy movies.

Fred has a tendency to place just as much emphasis on who's going to decide an issue, as how the issue is to be decided. No other candidate does this.

As far as ability to beat the opposition: Hillary's "don't pick on me, I'm a girl" moment has pretty much sealed that shut. Fred has been dog-piled-upon, it was right before & after he announced his candidacy. He handled it with stoicism, calm, good humor and cheer. In a general election, that's just one of several things he could bring up, thereby trouncing Hillary in something that looks like the 1984 Reagan/Mondale landslide.

Fred's your guy. I think any day now, you're going to see the light.

Maybe. Fred says the right things and his delivery is pretty danged good, which, considering his profession, it should be. Then again, I say the right things, too. Most of the time. But I don't think you'd wanna vote for me, Morgan. Fred's basic lack of a track record, specifically his lukewarm performance in the Senate, is my main sticking point.

    We'll see...

  3. Anything that scares the shit out of gutless liberals makes me smile...I'm no Rudy fan, but I may vote for him, just because the paranoid left hates him so much.

  4. Buck! You stole my joke. LOL I always tell Fred-heads who insist that Fred is saying all the right things...that my brother says the same things, but I'm not about to vote for him for President.

I have watched Fred Thompson for years since he was in the senate (and getting rolled by the Dems on the Reform and Oversight Committee) and I knew back then I never wanted to see him run for president; I considered him an empty suit with no toughness. I feel that way even more so now.

Now Rudy. Rudy on the other hand, is impressing me more and more. My NUMBER ONE priority is national security and NUMBER TWO is supporting someone who can defeat the "smartest woman on earth." I am still undecided but leaning more towards Mayor Rudy every day.

  5. Hey Towanda! Good to see you! Funny you should mention Fred, coz in my surfing around this morning I found this, which is more than a little bit disconcerting. Fred-Heads tend to wave this off as a sort of good thing. I've heard so many variations on the "he doesn't WANT to be President, he's just doing it for the children!" I've lost count. Oops, I meant "for the country!" Whatever. Same difference. ;-)

While I think unbridled, driving ambition...the kind that subsumes ethical considerations in certain female presidential candidates, for example...isn't a good thing, I DO believe ya gotta want it to get it. Beyond the want is the work, and I'm not seeing a lot of that from Fred. Perception, maybe. But perception IS reality, ain't it?

  6. Not always.

Criticism against my boy Fred is always empty, so far, or mostly so. It's never about the issues.

But hey, if this is a valid reason that he shouldn't be in the race, and even that's a bit of a stretch, at least he'll make a contribution by strengthening the conservative message. We got illegal aliens and bloodthirsty terrorists; one of those deserves to be locked out, the other one roasted alive. In a lukewarm race, the most prominent candidates tend to forget that.

To see what the Republicans would be doing without Fred, just toss a gander over to Hillary with her flubbing on the drivers' licenses for illegal aliens thing. Now look at where the public support is on this issue. Look at the polls.

There was no point in Hillary waffling on this. The only reason she did, is because elections now are more about the check-writers than about the voters. She did it for the money. Are Republicans naturally insulated from such a problem? Heh. Not by a long shot.

This is where our political system goes without a strong conservative voice. It ceases to be a democratic system of government. Conclusion: Fred is worthy of support even if he doesn't "grab the brass ring."

But Buck, this is assuming what you've found is a solid piece of evidence that Thompson's suffering from short-timer disease. There's no meat to it, it's 99% fat & grissle. A drop of "Fred-said" with a couple gallons of empty speculation mixed in. We Fred-heads are right to wave it off.

Or for the wife? Jeri Thompson

I agree with you and Towanda, Buck. Fred sounds wise but does he have the drive and energy to run, win and then deal with the critical issues ahead? I'm not seeing it. (Unless he plans to have his wife step in as Hillary Right)

However I agree with you about Huckabee, mkfreeberg. The last two times I saw him I was not nearly as impressed.

  8. I'm not a big Rudy fan, but I would probably vote for him before Fred. I would really rather not vote for either. I'm not real pleased with any of the pickin's.

It is a sad day when I think McCain looks pretty good, but I'm hoping for something better.

  9. Morgan sez: It's never about the issues.

The lack of a track record isn't an issue? I think it is.

Bec: Very interesting article on Mrs. Thompson...thanks for that. While one should always take these things with a grain (or more) of salt, it was interesting, indeed.

Lou: I agree with you about being "disappointed with the field." I suppose we're all looking for the Second Coming of Reagan, but he sure ain't here, yet. Not that I've seen, anyway.

My bottom line: still undecided but leaning, however slightly, towards Rudy.

  10. I'm very disappointed with the field, as well. I just cannot support Senator McCain.....and I love Rep. Hunter but he just hasn't gotten any traction. (Secretary of Defense position in the future maybe?) Rep. Ron Paul is simply crazy, in my opinion. Rep. Tancredo is just too angry all the time. Senator Thompson is out of the question for me. That leaves Mayor Giuliani and Gov. Romney ~ I could vote for either one of them, and am leaning toward voting for Rudy in the Kansas primary.

Even though our GOP field is weak...I LOVE THE CAMPAIGN SEASON!!!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
