"What Else Should I Be... All Apologies..."

Well. Sorry about the post immediately below…but sometimes ya just gotta rant, ya know? My attitude has been adjusted. There’s not much that a quick 50-mile ride on a brilliant Fall day (cloudless sky, mid-70s, and a willing steed), followed up with a Sunshine Wheat and a Camacho 1962 of the Churchill variety, won’t cure. Doubtless there may be some things the foregoing won’t alleviate…but not many.
Speaking of Sunshine Wheat…here’s…
Today’s Pic: “Still Life” of the sort usually found in and around El Casa Móvil De Pennington. What you see is the current barley-pop selection available at El Casa Móvil… From left to right: Fat Tire, Sunshine Wheat, and Shiner Bock. Directly in front is the remaining half of that Camacho 1962 I consumed immediately prior to putting up this post… ensconced in my favorite souvenir ash tray, purloined from some Nipponese juke-joint in the waaay-back. If truth be told I think The Second Mrs. Pennington had the sticky fingers on the occasion of this lifting, but I could be wrong. It’s rare, but it has been known to happen.
The BX was out of Fat Tire in sixers when I made my re-supply run earlier this week, so I was forced to purchase the Beer of Choice in 22 ounce containers. Which isn’t a bad thing, Gentle Reader. I just won’t be knocking back three of these at a single sitting. Or then again, I just might. But I danged sure won’t be driving after. Or riding.

  1. Buck,

My Dad's down here visiting. I ordered this for the occasion, thinking maybe this is the occasion to wean myself off bitter green beer.

It's an award winner after all, but I'll have to 'fess up that it's not working well for me. Award or not, it has to bite the back of the tongue, hard, or I'm just not interested. Fortunately I got hold of a box of my standby as well, and I'm having to work at keeping them both disappearing at the same rate. Which is not what beer drinking is supposed to be about. So I'll leave the horizon-expanding to those who are capable of doing it, for awhile.

Having said that, though, I've not yet heard of anyone being disappointed with Fat Tire. Maybe I'll snag a UK-sized pint for the holidays.

  2. While in Canada, my favorite beer was called a Grasshopper which was a wheat beer served with a lemon wedge (if they had included a salted rim glass, it would have been a poor man's margarita). Toby liked a beer called Big Rock. Shinar Bock is his choice here at home.

  3. I am sure glad you stopped and took a look at Sendai-shi, Japan, my Japanese blog from way back in 1946 then 1953 to 1956. I started the site a long time ago then quit it for a while then restarted it. Now, I am doing it as a blog to see if it will get more old timers like you to show up and have a look. It has raised some interest again in Japan as it always has.

I use about 20 old soldiers photos from back then but don't have many on yet. There are 1200 photos in all.

Thanks again. I began my tour at Camp Crawford, near Sapporo in 1953. I was in the 1st Cav Div there. It was cold at hell. Used Bobcats to get around. Pulled by them or weasels and us on skis.

    Those were the days.

    Stay in touch.

When you click on my name my three blogs pop up and Sendai is one of them.

  4. Buck...guess the virus or whatever the Hell I have is affecting my brain...I added the beer and cigars to the political post....as I was saying...Cooler weather=less Cigars(only smoke outside, when the weather is nice)...and cooler weather equals less beer of the Miller Lite type, but more taste....I love to experience different tasting brews...buddy of mine brews lots of wheat and others in his basement....so I get to sample a varity.

  5. Sounds tasty...no beer here right now...but I could use one. I need to stock up on our favorite before Hubby's R&R, but I have time.

  6. O.K. I give up. What does that little paper in the bottom right hand corner say?

  7. Gypsy, I too, was intrigued by the paper in the corner and clicked to enlarge the photo. I thought Buck had left us a secret message, but it is only a stove top warning.

  8. Morgan: MMMmmm...hefe-weizen! Here's my
    favorite
in that category. I like wheat beers in general, and hefe-weizens in particular. Sometimes the yeast doesn't like me, though...especially if I drink a lot of it. Sunshine is a filtered wheat beer and is perfect for those hot summer days.

And I've had more than a few Girls, as well. BevMo looks like a pretty cool store, but a quick check of their site shows only Kallyforhneeya stores. Too bad about that!

Lou: The Canadians certainly know beer. Labatt's was the Beer of Choice for many years (read that as: Detroit and Rochester); regular for me and light for TSMP. It's amazing how many Detroiters drink Canadian beer. I think that has something to do with hockey, but I could be wrong.

TripleE: I've never had a Reutberger... at least that I can remember. But with all those TDYs to Germany, I just might have had one or two.

Pat: I only smoke outside as well, but I'll continue to have opportunities year-round. While we get the occasional burst of cold here on the High Plains, it ain't nothing like the Mid-West.

Re: secret messages...LOL! Yep, the message would be "top cover MUST be open..." Frickin' lawyers.

And finally...thanks for stopping by, Lincoln. While I commented on your Sendai site, your "other" photography is brilliant as well. Sapporo is a beautiful city, and yeah, it's COLD! We got a lot more snow in Wakkanai, though...average annual snowfall was 220 inches. That's a LOT of snow!

  9. Damn, that sure is pretty! Makes my mouth water!

I'm off for a whole weekend of that stuff...and I dread the hour it ends!

Thanks for the pick me up...been wrestling with this damn PC for 2 or 3 days!

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
