"Outside of My Lane..."

Marine General Pace, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs, speaking at his retirement ceremony a week ago yesterday. I missed this in real time (which is sorta unusual for me, the C-SPAN junkie) but came across the video while making the rounds this morning. General Pace says some things in his remarks that are highly unusual for any military officer, let alone an officer of his stature and position. But these things NEED to be said and I, for one, am supremely glad he said them.

I’m sure you’ll agree.

  1. Hi Buck - Everyone should see this - I so admire this man. We are richer as a country because of his service.

  2. You and me both, Flag Gazer. I think Gates did General Pace a HUGE disservice by not renominating him for a second term as Chairman. A HUGE disservice...

  5. First let me say, for every General Pace, there are cowards like Murtha and Kerry.....who for political gain will throw the troops overboard to the press and the liberal elite.

Pace got a raw deal, not so much from Gates, but from Bush, who would not/could not stand up to the leftwing morons in Congress...The Pace crime? Daring to say that gays should not serve openly in the military, and that was view was founded on his moral and religious beliefs....there is what you get...you tell the truth, as you see it, if it doesn't fit the agenda of the chosen ones(the drive by media), you get thrown overboard.

    Pace-Thumbs Up

The Democratic Congress and Bush-Thumbs Down...just my take Buck.

  7. General Pace was a victim of the "politically correct" that seems to be running our country. Thanks for posting this video.
The most we can do, it seems, is to make sure that we keep free spech free.

  8. Pat: I choose to take Gates at his word, and I suppose that means Bush, too...by inference. While I think Pace's comments on "don't ask, don't tell" and the whole gays-serving, homosexual immorality, etc., thing got a lot of negative media attention from The Usual Suspects, I do NOT think that was the primary reason Gen. Pace was cashiered. It was Iraq, and more Iraq.

The ironic thing, to me, is that Gates apparently thought a man with demonstrated courage under fire somehow lacked the means to endure questioning from a bunch of political hacks with room-temperature IQs. That is the real crime.

But you're right about Bush. He could have told Gates "I want Gen. Pace to serve another term." And he didn't. So, Bush gets a deserved thumbs-down on this particular point.

Catmoves: Agree with the "keep speech free" sentiment. It's the essence of our system.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
