Hiatt ==> Raitt ==> Jagger... Jagger?

Lotsa folks have been posting some of their favorite tunes of late. It seems like every other blog I read has featured some vid or the other…and they’re ALL good, too! So, not being one to (ahem) buck a trend, here are a couple of my faves. Artists, that is. I went looking for a vid of my favorite John Hiatt tune, but alas…I came up empty. Still and even, there may be no such thing as a “bad” John Hiatt song. Here he is doing an acoustic version of Thing Called Love, a tune Bonnie Raitt covered and made into a minor hit in the near-way-back. Hiatt gets a lil bit excessive towards the end, but I forgive him. On the whole, a great performance.

Speaking of Bonnie…and Hiatt was doing that, at some length, even…Here’s Bonnie doing a duet on Thing Called Love with Bruce Hornsby. Dang, but I love the way this woman plays!

And then…from last year, here’s Bonnie doing a duet with Mick on one of Exile on Main Street’s finest songs…Shine A Light.

All that’s missing is Bonnie’s wondrous slide work. One wonders why she’s sans guitar? Was Ronnie afraid he’d get shown up? Or what?

  1. Great selections and they got my foot to tapping and made me want to head to the fridge for a brew!

Best concert I ever attended was John Hiatt! Hands down.

If you want your lady to get in the mood for love, take her to see ol' John!

  2. Nice tunes, Buck. Didn't know that I was part of a trend. Found a lot of good AC/DC vids while I was surfing for that one though, as well as lot of other good stuff. That might become a regular feature.

  3. Ah - Bruce Hornsby. He's mostly disappeared from the mainstream music scene since the 80s, focusing more on production and song writing.

Wish deeply that he'd return - his piano playing is in a class all by itself. I loves me Bruce Hornsby.

He's one of the best I've seen too, Mushy, topped only (perhaps) by Lyle Lovett. I first saw Hiatt in 1987 in Detroit at Chene Park, a wonderful concert venue on the Detroit River. That concert was the first and ONLY time in my life I got front row seats...or rather The Second Mrs. Pennington did. Not counting infamous "festival seating" concerts, of course. An unforgettable experience in each and every aspect!

(BTW: Click the link if you think Detroit is an ugly city. It's NOT.)

Mike: Thanks! I enjoyed your AC/DC yesterday. When you say "regular feature," are you talking music in general or "all AC/DC... all the time?" ;-)

Kris: I like Hornsby as well, but don't like his politics...a trait he shares with other faves of mine (like Neil Young). From his Wiki page:

During 2007, Hornsby made concert appearances of historical import. On January 4, former Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Bill Kreutzmann and Mickey Hart reunited along with Hornsby, Mike Gordon (of Phish and the Rhythm Devils) and Warren Haynes to play two sets at a post-inauguration fundraising party for Nancy Pelosi, the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House in the United States Congress. They were billed as "Your House Band" and performed some Dead classics...

    Too bad, that.

And just as an aside to all: Ain't Mick and the boys GOOD? Not for nothing they're called "The World's greatest Rock 'n' Roll Band." I've played and replayed that vid so many times over the course of the last few hours I have every note memorized... Maybe it's NOT too late to see 'em!

  5. I like the music and the videos. Recently I purchased an Eagles' Greatest Hits CD. To think that all my favorite Eagles songs would be in one place, was just too good a deal to pass up. Maybe that is silly, but I like 'em. Now I find myself rock'n out around the house with my rat terrier jumping around me.

  6. Lou sez: Recently I purchased an Eagles' Greatest Hits CD...

I've bought a ton of "greatest hits" CDs in the past four years or so...for the very reason you mentioned, Lou, but also as sort of stop-gap replacements for the vinyl LPs that are currently in SN2's custody.

The one thing that bums me out at times is the omission of one of my favorite tunes on a collection, any collection. This happens more often than I think it should, too. My taste can't be all that screwed up, can it??

Notsomuch. Ick. Just plain ole ick. Never have liked them and never understood what the big deal was all about.

    Aerosmith is MUCH better. YMMV.

Oh my. My mileage certainly DOES vary in this case, and GREATLY, at that! To claim Tyler (and Co.), a Mick-wanna-bee if there ever was one, is equal to or gasp! better than the Glimmer Twins is just incomprehensible... to me.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one, Kris.

(btw...I have at least one Aerosmith album in the collection, maybe two, even.) ;-)

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
