Still
making the rounds, but today is gonna look like this.
It’s been raining non-stop since I awoke about an hour and a half ago, and the wind is out of the east.
Which is highly unusual for P-Town since the prevailing winds are out of the west.
But…rain is good.
I’ve been noticing lately that our neck of the woods isn’t included in the draught monitor segments broadcast by the WX Channel.
We had a lot of rain this past fall, and I’m guessing our deficit has been made up.
That’s unusual, too!
September, 2006.
Back in a bit…
Beauty of a day here. Faint hints of spring. Thought of you this morning when I heard Clovis mentioned on national news.
ReplyDeleteLaurie sez: ...when I heard Clovis mentioned on national news.
ReplyDeleteWas that the recovery of the infant abducted from the Lubbock (TX) hospital? Strange story, that...
Yep, that would be the story.
ReplyDeleteEnjoying the rain here, too. Husband has to take the day off, he can't haul hay nor can he plow in this. He chose instead to spend the day at his parents house.
ReplyDeleteWild about that baby abduction! Don't know what is stranger: 2nd baby in a year kidnapped from a Lubbock hospital, or second kidnapping this year where the child was found safely in Clovis.

ReplyDeleteWell, if I were an expectant father in Lubbock, I'd damned sure pick another hospital! (Not sure if it's the same hospital for both abductions, but even one is one too many...) And maybe there's something in the water in Clovis...
I know there's something in the water in Portales: minerals, and lots of 'em, too. Hardest water I've ever seen. But that doesn't make me wanna start a new career as a kidnapper... just forces me to clean more often than I'd like. (Apropos of absolutely nothing.)
Portales has good water compared to our well water here. You should see the inside of my dishwasher!! LOL! And every few months I have to give all my dishes and glasses a good soaking in vinager to make them sparkling and clear again.
ReplyDeleteIt was a different hospital in each of the baby kidnappings. What is up with the hospitals there!? I had all mine in Clovis and felt very comfortable with the safety measures in place there. You can't have babies at the hospital in Portales (unless it is a REAL emergency), they don't have insurance for OB. You probably weren't here when just a few years ago there was NO hospital in Roosevelt County.

ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure they were putting the finishing touches on the hospital when I arrived (December '02). The parking lot always seems empty when I go by, and one wonders how much use the hospital actually gets. About once every three months or so I'll hear a medevac chopper come in and that always makes me stop and think...
Further about the water... ALL my white tee shirts are no longer white. They're more like a very, very light shade of gray, no matter how much I bleach. Minerals may be good for the body, but they are HELL on dishes, tee shirts, and shower stalls.
