It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, one that promises to be quite warm (83 is the forecast), bright, sunny, and just slightly breezy. The last bit is the best bit. More often than not our best days are marred by gale-force winds. Today? Not so much. At least according to the forecast. We’ll see.
So. The best thing to do with a day like today is to get out in it. The coffee has been drunk, the rounds have been made, and I’ll report there are no outrages in the offing. None here, anyway. Too nice a day to be outraged.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to the Irish, the Irish-Americans, and Irish wanna-bees. All y’all be careful out there and go easy on the green beer, if you’ve a mind to do that sort of thing. I’ll raise a glass today, but the contents will not be green. Sacrilege!
Happy St. Patrick's Day to you, too. Family legend has some Irish in my background, but it's never been proven. Since I don't drink green beer, I'll raise a diet lime Coke to my "fellow" Irishmen.
ReplyDeleteOk, so lime coke isn't really green either, but it's the thought that counts, right?
Becky sez: ...it's the thought that counts, right?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! There was the same sort of talk in my family as well, but it ended with my Mom. No proof, no claim. I won't perpetuate that sort of stuff! :-)
re: Green beer. I had lunch in a bar in the Big(ger) City today...I wanted a Reuben, but it wasn't on the menu. Anyway, they were serving green beer, of course. A quick impromptu survey of the bar's patrons who were drinking beer revealed the green beer drinkers were outnumbered two to one by people drinking uncolored beer. That's a good thing!!
Didn't have any green beer, but raised a bottle or four of Guinness (for strength!). Figure it counts about the same.

ReplyDeleteYou get extra credit, in my book, Mike. I thought seriously about Guinness yesterday at lunch (an older guy was getting quite... uh ... "oiled" on Guinness at the bar I had lunch in), but decided against it, as it was bottled, not draft. Draft Guinness is non-existent in this part of the world, as far as I know.
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the bottle, but not being of age I don't have much of a choice unfortunately. There was at least one bar in Campustown here in Ames that has it, and I suspect a few more downtown on Main Street, but see above about the whole age thing.
