  1. I'm honored to be the first to respond... I caught this post the other night at Lex's place. I showed BOTH my teen-age daughters the post. Good stuff!

  2. So...what were A&A's reactions? You didn't say! I could see either or both in a fighter cockpit, as long as it was a USAF fighter! :-)

  3. I met a young woman at the fundraiser last weekend who is in the Civil Air Patrol. A family member of the guys who did the major organizing. She's a pretty young thing too. I'll have to forward that link.

  4. At one time, Jesse wanted to be a fighter pilot. She still thinks anything to do with flying is just pretty cool and the USAF is the coolest!

Jesse and I are of the same mind!

  6. Both Anastasia and Amanda said "Cool!" I think Jesse and my father need some education... Naval Aviators are simply the best. I don't say that because I am a member of the strongest, most capable navy this world has ever known... I say that because the Fighter jocks that wash out of Navy Flight school (fail to complete Carrier Quals) have the option of going to the 2nd tier flight club, aka the U.S. Air Force. Just sayin.

Ah, parochialism rears its ugly head.

I have a great deal of respect for those folks who have both the skill and daring to put an airplane on a flight deck, especially at night or in bad weather. But, "carrier qualified" is simply a skill that can be (and is) taught and learned. Many thousands of naval aviators have done so, many more will do so in future. Landing on a carrier isn't the be-all, end-all of military aviation, no matter what the Navy tries to tell you!

That particular skill has nothing to do with bombs-on-target or supremacy in air-to-air combat. And the USAF excels where the foregoing metrics are concerned. Just sayin', right back.

And the Thunderbirds have prettier jets, too.

  8. Sorry for the late response...
I agree the Air Force does excel at DCA, OCA and bombing. But their (AF) culture is somewhat restrictive in nature and a constrained Fighter Pilot in my opinion is not what we want in the air.

    Say what? Screech ENGRISH, Gee-Eye!

Care to amplify that comment? Our culture is somewhat restrictive? How? And there's no such thing as a "constrained" fighter pilot, in ANY service, in the service of ANY nation. No?

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
