Two radar views of our current weather from the WX Channel site. I get a different, shorter range and more dramatic radar view on the TV than the web site shows. In the shorter range version, the entire screen is covered with rain. And it’s supposed to stay this way all day and into the night. I like it!
Lou has a post up today about being homesick for the New Mexico mountains now that Fall is in the air. While I’ve never lived in Questa (only visited), I can certainly relate to the “Fall in the air” line of thought. We barely hit 60 degrees yesterday, and it’s 57 degrees out, as I write. Now, 57 degrees is a long way from “cold,” but it IS chilly. I had to get my little ceramic heater out to make El Casa Móvil De Pennington comfy; the heater is purring away as I type this. The low-level purring of the heater is much more preferable to the drone of the AC, which becomes very annoying after hours and hours and hours. I also had to put another blanket on last evening, something quite unusual for this time of year! All in all, the combination of chilly temps and light rain has a pleasing, relaxing effect on the mind and body.
The chilly temps were oh-so-appropriate for football, too! The premature “fall” feeling was much better than the usual low 90s we get this time of year. I spent the entire day watching football yesterday, which is par for the course for the first day of the college season. Most of the games were blow-outs, but ND gave me quite a scare until the final seconds of the first half when Brady Quinn finally managed to engineer a drive that resulted in a TD. ND is going to have to step it up more than a bit if they’re going to live up to all the pre-season hype. They certainly didn’t look like the Number Two team in the country. Or perhaps Georgia Tech is much better than their unranked position in the polls indicates? Whatever. ND – Georgia Tech was still the best game I watched yesterday. Next Saturday the game will be
More later, should the spirit move me…
Thanks for the link. We watch a lot of football in this house. I come from a long line of Texas Aggies so I rarely yell for Longhorns. Since my son was an OSU aggie, I rarely yell for OU. Although that Brady Quinn is a cutie (a handsome QB is worth yelling for), I am not big on ND. Georgia Tech did look good yesterday. I attended Texas Tech, so I will keep my eye on them. Gosh, with all of this football, I may as well cancel my Netflix membership.
ReplyDeleteLou... I used to be largely ambivalent about Big 12 football until I moved to OKC, where I acquired a Big 12 education and a distinct "ANYONE but OU!" attitude. OU fans just have to be the most obnoxious football fans there are, and that's saying a boatload, since football fans can be pretty obnoxious, as a class. (My tongue is firmly in my cheek...)
ReplyDeleteTSMP is a Notre Dame alumna, Class of '78. Joe Montana was in her class (or vice versa). I became an ND fan when they beat Texas for the 1977 national championship...Texas went in ranked Number One, and ND was Number Three. THAT was a wild, wild game, also marked by a big party at my house...where TSMP was the ONLY ND fan in attendance. Wild wagers were made and lost on that game, lemmee tell ya! For my part, losing the bet wasn't all that bad, it was pretty pleasurable, in fact. :-) But my roomie at the time suffered various indignities...
Been an ND fan ever since!
Gr, Notre Dame. The one team I'll root against all year long. Well, them and OU. And Texas, just because I have a personal vendetta against the Big 12 South. Damn Texans came in and ruined my Big 8, dragging the Okies with 'em.
ReplyDeleteI'm just bitter because of the slump the Big 12 North has had in recent years. There was a time when K-State, Nebraska, Colorado, and even Iowa State were all players on the national stage. Now ISU barely beats Toledo in triple OT, CU loses to a I-AA school, and K-State has a worse reputation than Baylor.
Interesting thing about ND's football team...NO one is ambivalent about them; you either love 'em or hate 'em, there appears to be no middle ground. And I hear ya, Mike...especially about CU. THERE'S a program in trouble and will likely remain so for a while. Nebraska is still a national player, in my book...
