Glad to see that you're carrying on the International Beer Day Festivities. There are soooo many beerages out there -- it seems like they deserrve their own week!
Moogie, that's a misspelling that I might just keep around: "beerages." Nice. Remarkably fitting, and I am surprised I've never done that before.
Took me initially to Molson or Labatt's, of course. I do really like that "Are you doing that ironic hipster thing" takes you to PBR. I have written about that before:
"Those are eclectic enough to be cool to drink, depending on whether it is one of those nights that you suddenly feel like it is important to show that you, too, have a little redneck in you. In that case it become less something you want to drink, and more something you want to prove."
Buck, I had a lot of fun with this and was surprised at how many I have actually tried. I even noticed one significant omission. At least I think it is. What about Grolsch?
Now a question if you will. Back in the late 60's early 70's my wife and I enjoyed an ale called Schoenling's Little Kings Ale. It came in an 8 pack and in smaller really neat green bottles. Have you ever heard of it and is it still around?
I know that the little kings were around when I was in high school, and shortly thereafter (early 90's). Unless I am thinking of something else, but that sure does ring a bell.
Andy: Occasional Reader Darryl (Barco Sin Vela) is a PBR fan but I doubt if he'll read this as he's off sailing somewhere in Polynesia. Talk about the "ironic hipster thing!" And yeah, I've read your stuff on this subject and suffered your slings and arrows for bein' a beer snob. ;-)
Dan: The last time I saw Little Kings was when I was living in Dee-troit and that was 15 years ago. It's a Mid-West thing. Beer Advocate is not impressed, tho.
Well, I ended up at Corona Extra. Probably fitting because half my neighbors are brown folks.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, they mostly drink Busch. I know because I pick up the bottles, and caps that litter the place.
Can't say I've ever tasted a Corona. Maybe. But if I did, it didn't make much of an impression on me.
Obviously.
I've had a Corona or three, Andy. It's not BAD beer but it ain't never seen the inside of my fridge, either.

Self promotion? Check.
Mothership Wit is good.

ReplyDeleteMoogie: I'll second what Andy said!

Grolsch IS a serious omission... nice catch!
I like PBR, too. But you know I like all those beers that you don't think are beers. That's just the ironic hipster in me.
ReplyDeleteBut you know I like all those beers that you don't think are beers.
ReplyDeleteOh, they're beers alright... just not GOOD beers.
