The Last Word...

... about Ted Kennedy belongs to Mark Steyn:
We are enjoined not to speak ill of the dead. But, when an entire nation – or, at any rate, its "mainstream" media culture – declines to speak the truth about the dead, we are certainly entitled to speak ill of such false eulogists. In its coverage of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's passing, America's TV networks are creepily reminiscent of those plays Sam Shepard used to write about some dysfunctional inbred hardscrabble Appalachian household where there's a baby buried in the backyard but everyone agreed years ago never to mention it.
You most definitely should read the whole thing.  Steyn is by far one of the most articulate voices on the right, if not THE most articulate. And he speaks for me... mainly coz I take Mom's counsel seriously.

A note about the back-ground of my "enlisted swine" comment over at Lex's which you might appreciate.

At DaNang there was a really sharp-as-a-tack, funny-as-hell Mexican-American Squadron Admin Sgt named John "Encarnacion" Lambaria that I got to be good friends with, as he was from the McAllen-Edinberg area down on the border and I was very familiar with the area as my father was Head coach of the tennis team at Pan-American college in Edinberg for a while, so we would swap stories, etc. At any rate he got so he started pulling the following bit every time he saw me approaching (I was only a lowly 1/lt) : He would pop to attention in the old British NCO style, click his heels, salute in the open-palm British style with the hand slightly quivering before coming to a hand-salute rest at his fore-head, and exclaim: "Oh sir oh sir, don't hurt us sir! Please go easy on the enlisted swine sir!" LOL!!

At which point I would play the game by returning with a casual sluff-off salute growling in mock authoritarian voice: "At ease, Sgt Lambaria, but just remember, look sharp--I'll be in the area all day!" LOL.

    Memories, memories...

  3. Buck, Steyn speaks for me too, and he can sing all day and night long as far as I am concerned. The MSM is as fast as they can rehabilitating the man's legacy. This way as all the real facts about his contacts with the KGB come out none of it will get traction and the man goes down in history as a hero, not a spineless murder that he was.

I am a heathen so I can say what ever I want about the living or the dead. The man was scum.

    BT: Jimmy T sends.

  4. I've stated my opinion of Teddy hear and elsewhere already, so I'll refrain from piling on.

Except to say that Steyn is dead on.

  5. Great column by Mark Steyn. He is one of my favorites, and his column on Ted Kennedy is excellent. I was never told by my momma not to speak ill of the dead, and frankly at this point I am disliking Kennedy more as a dead man than I did when he was alive, if that is possible. The white-washing by the media is shameful. Now that he is buried, I hope we have heard the last of him, but probably not.

  6. Moogie: Getting there?

VX: That's a great story... and illustrates one of the key differences between the AF and the other services. Sgt Lambaria probably would have gone to Captain's Mast in the Navy for that... :D

Jimmy: Noted, and I agree with Steyn as well.

    BR: Same as above. :D

Sharon: We haven't heard the last of Teddy by a long shot. We'll soon have the "Edward Kennedy Memorial Hopeful Health Care Change for America Medical Bill." Count on it.

  8. IMHO the appropriate thing to do would have been to have placed Ted underneath ten feet of water for all eternity.
