A Quickie

My friend Lori in SFO sends along the following:
An email from Ireland to all of their brethren in the States...a point to ponder despite your political affiliation:
We, in Ireland, can't figure out why you people are even bothering to hold an election in the United States.
On one side, you had a pants wearing female lawyer, married to another lawyer who can't seem to keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer, who goes to the wrong church, who is married to yet another lawyer, who doesn't even like the country her husband wants to run!
Now...On the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate 'Mc' terminology, married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship!!
What in God's name are ya lads thinkin over in the colonies?!?
Damned good question, eh?

  1. I love this! I saw a shorter version somewhere, but I'm sending this to me dad who's proud of his Irish good sense. (Love that you put it in green)

Thanks to you and to Lori!

  4. Bec! Long time, no see! I'm glad I could make you smile, AND that you'll forward this to your Dad. On another note, is EIP still breaking your PC? We're somewhat removed from hockey season and all those NHL videos I put up aren't visible any longer. SN1, btw, clued me in about those vids... telling me they made EIP extremely slow-loading on his box.

Buck, Lou & Kris: We're agreed.

Jenny: I didn't know you're half Irish! Cool!

Jenn: It ain't just Canadians who get taken to task for "eh." Upstate Michiganders, aka "Yoopers," also use "eh" a lot, and I believe Minnesotans of Scandinavian descent do, too. I didn't use the expression all that much until I moved to Deetroit back in '85. And then I began using it... a lot. Funny how that goes, eh? ;-)

  5. That made me laugh! And it's true! I'm Irish too.
Most of the populations is Irish!

  6. Regarding the "eh"--Jeff and I like to watch Ice Road Truckers on the History Channel, a documentary series about truck drivers in the frigid winters by the Artic Circle to take supplies to those WAY northern outposts via an ice road. All the drivers are Canadians, and they are ALWAYS saying "eh". Which brings me to a really stupid movie with a couple of Canadians after free beer, Strange Brew, and they too are always saying "eh". A role they sorta reprised when the same pair of actors were in the Disney animated movie as a pair of moose, who always said, you got it, "eh". LOL!

Irish: both my parents are from Irish decent, as well as German from father's side (James and Kramer) and Scottish on mother's side (McMeans, though not sure if that was my Irish or Scottish heritage).

  7. Hey Buck,
It's good to read you, too!
My oldest did a complete computer system restore dealie and I think it helped. MUCH better.

OT - I just visited Sandmonkey's blog for the first time in a couple of months and I spotted you over there just now. (Things are sounding a bit grim in Egypt, aren't they? Sadly, I tend to agree somewhat with Red Tulip) I also noticed someone posting under the name "Bec" but it wasn't me! Since I used to comment there quite often in the old days, it was kind of a shock - like identity theft or something. I hope I agree with this person!

  8. Ash sez: Most of the populations is Irish!

Especially on March 17th... right, Ash?

Jenny sez: All the drivers are Canadians, and they are ALWAYS saying "eh". Oh, Jenny! You're re-enforcing what Jenn was on about, aren't ya? ;-)

re: Irish, and such. I think I have a lil bit o' Irish in me, as well. But I'm mostly English, according to family legend on both sides of the aisle, as Mom's maiden name was "Wood." But I'm not "into" genealogy, so I can't make the claim with authority.

  9. Ah, Bec, we were commenting simultaneously... and thanks for letting me know that I'm not blowing up your PC any longer.

I feel your identity theft pain, LOL! I was cruising some blog the other day (not one of my normal reads) and saw another "Buck" commenting, as well, which made me feel rather strange. Thank God for those Blogger icons... coz they are real identity validations.

  10. Uncle Buck,

It is always interesting to me the foreign thought patterns concerning these times...if that is truly from Ireland...that was exactly what i expected. I was talking to a friend who lives in Canada last night...he seems to think McCain will win. Though he was originally joking with me about "Go Obama" and i said, "Yeah, i'm sure all you Maple Leafs would LOVE that!"

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
