Blog-Bud Jim tagged me with a fairly simple meme: publish your desktop photo. Now that's the sort of meme I like! Simple, easy, and requires NO thought. At all.
So, without further ado: my desktop.
You've seen the pic before, Gentle Reader (the larger version is at the link). It's The Second Mrs. Pennington, standing in a doorway to one of the colleges at Oxford University... in Oxford, England... strangely enough. I took the photo sometime in 1980 or perhaps 1981 when TSMP and I lived in England.
I think I'm supposed to tag others. I won't tag Lin, she doesn't do memes and says so, oh-so-prominently in her blog's header. But Ashley, Becky, Lou, Mike, and Jay might. Phlegmmy could be interesting, too. We'll see...
I will play.
ReplyDeleteI love that picture! I want to paint it. Actually I have it in my "to be painted" folder.
I can handle this meme. Ashley is right; we have discussed that both of us want to paint this photo.
ReplyDeleteNot many guys would put a picture of their exwife up in a spot to be seen everyday. Well, in a favorable light. As a dartboard maybe. You two must still be very amicable.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't tagged, but I'll share anyway. Mine is a picture of my youngest when he was 11 months old playing with a kitten in the back yard (outside cats are ok, just not indoor cats. I'm allowed to have all the outdoor ones I want).
And Jeff's is of Playmate Jenny McCarthy (clothed, thankfully. Kids do see his computer after all)
Great photo, Lou tagged me. I didn't know what a meme was. Can you tell me what the word meme means?
ReplyDeleteNice, Buck. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAsh and Lou: You guys are good sports... thanks!
ReplyDeleteJenny sez: Not many guys would put a picture of their exwife up in a spot to be seen everyday. Well, in a favorable light. As a dartboard maybe. You two must still be very amicable.
I wasn't tagged, but I'll share anyway.
Actually, we're not amicable at all, Jenny. I haven't spoken to TSMP in months... we communicate only via e-mail because we simply can't speak to each other and be civil at the same time. Our e-mails tend to get out of hand, too. It's been at least two months since we last corresponded via e-mail. The last exchange was pretty ugly.
So, why do I have her pic as my desktop photo, you (and countless others) may ask? Coz I'm living in the frickin' past. It's my most serious short-coming, fatal flaw, chink in the armor, yadda, yadda... but it is what it is.
Sorry about not tagging you... one never knows how people will react to these things. Blog-Bud Lin hates memes with a passion, others not so much. But: thanks for sharing! I'll tag you the next time one comes around!
JD sez: Great photo, Lou tagged me. I didn't know what a meme was. Can you tell me what the word meme means?
Ah! A learning experience! Gotta love those, eh? ;-)
Here's the Urban Dictionary's definition of "meme." Two quotes from same:
1 : an idea, belief or belief system, or pattern of behavior that spreads throughout a culture either vertically by cultural inheritance (as by parents to children) or horizontally by cultural acquisition (as by peers, information media, and entertainment media)
2 : a pervasive thought or thought pattern that replicates itself via cultural means; a parasitic code, a virus of the mind especially contagious to children and the impressionable
I like #2 best. ;-)
Jim sez: Nice, Buck. Thanks!
And thanks for tagging me, Jim!
Thanks Buck, I think.
ReplyDeleteDiva sez: Thanks Buck, I think.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't insulting ya, Diva...if that's what you mean. I should have added "As for me.. I like #2 best." Coz I participated and tagged quite a few people.
