As noted in the title: The fruits of a late, late night: another placeholder post. I was up until about 0300 watching the returns from what is turning out to be an election of serious historical import. While yesterday’s vote is hardly the Democrat equivalent of the Republican tsunami of 1994, it is indeed significant. And worrisome. I’ve only been up for an hour or so, and in that period of time I’ve seen Speaker-designate (presumably) Pelosi beaming at a press conference while talking about the “will of the American people” and “bi-partisanship.” We’ll see, now, won’t we?
Another bombshell: Rumsfeld is being replaced by the President of Texas A&M, Bob Gates. Mr. Gates is a former DCI, and that’s about all I know about that. I’m watching the President’s press conference as I tap this out, and he’s delivering about as good a performance I’ve ever seen, especially considering the circumstances.
What a night. What a day. Much remains to be seen, eh?
Back in a few.

All I can say is, Oh dear. My youngest feels like celebrating, but for the first time in his life his older brother is kinda quiet and his mother is worried. Poor kid. Poor us.
ReplyDeleteI guess all we can do Buck is take a wait and see approach to the whole mess. I'm sure the House Republicans recall the use of filibustering from their counter-parts across the isle, and I would doubt the GW would be hesitant to use the VETO if need be. My biggest fear is the push for the cut and run, especially now that Rum has stepped down. It should be fun to watch which spineless jellyfish will be the first to bark out their opinion. I doubt it will be Ted because it should take him at least through the weekend to sober up enough to speak. Well I guess I'd better sign off, I've probably said more then I should have already.
ReplyDeletePS. Great PIC Buck!

ReplyDeleteDidja ever read any Tom Robbins, Bec? The favorite expression of one of the characters in Even Cowgirls Get the Blues is "Oh shit, Oh Dear!" I've used that expression for years, sometimes in a sarcastic sort of way and sometimes straight up. I've said it a LOT these past two days...

I agree on all points, Dale, especially on the "wait and see." We managed to survive four years of Carter and numerous Democrat-controlled congresses in years past. We can survive this, too.
About that pic...it occurred to me yesterday after posting that pic that those kids, assuming they stayed with the program, are now lieutenants and/or captains. And they probably STILL look young (to me).

ReplyDeleteI think Moses would look young to you, Buck! (Teasing, of course)
