I've been following the brouhaha surrounding Thursday's referendum in Scotland, where the Scots will vote whether to secede from the United Kingdom or not. There's this about that...
I know Mel... or William Wallace, Mel's character... wasn't the only guy who paid the ultimate price in the Scottish Wars of Independence. But this time around the price will be even higher if Scotland returns a "yes" vote, which will be something like 5,327,700 people committing mass economic (among other things) hara-kiri. I may be speaking from a position of colossal ignorance but my very FIRST thought about all this is "What the HELL are the Scots thinking?"

Those who want to separate from the UK think about as much as Obummer voters do. That is, not at all. It's all a progressive pipe dream! (Pun intended.)
ReplyDeleteYou have a point, Chris.
DeleteI think they will do as well as Canada. What they may be shocked at is the cost of building their own military. I hope they aren't planning to go without... I think the U.K. has already begun moving the nuke submarines.
ReplyDeleteBecause it isn't the UK any more? Rotterham? Multi-Culti? Muslims killing soldiers in the streets? They want immigrants to their country to assimilate into Scottish Culture, not the other way around? Because they'd rather die a Scot than devolve into some pathetic victim in a third world hell hole?
ReplyDeleteIf they do secede, it won't be the last.
@ O': I don't think Scotland has the resources Canada has. As for the military, how in the hell is a nation of about six million people going to build a military? New York City could build a better military than Scotland.
ReplyDelete@ Juvat: Your logic suggests Texas (or other states, but I know there's a movement in TX) has a case for secession, too. And yeah, no country is the same as it once was.
There's that line in the the Janis Joplin song (Me and Bobby McGee) that keeps coming to mind every time I see this cartoon.
ReplyDeletePer your comment about Scottish military... seems to me the best British military are Scots.
In re: military. I was talking about the ability to finance a military, not its effectiveness.
DeleteWGASA? They will qualify for all kinds of FREE CRAP! from the UN, IMF and the Ex-Im Bank. If they fail, they can just invade England and lose.....again.
ReplyDelete"Free stuff" is pretty powerful to the unwashed.
