... where The Second Mrs. Pennington, The Lovely Miss Lynch, SN1, and I spent New Year's Eve in 1990/91. This is also the place where rumo(u)r has it four Yanks walked out with about a dozen beer mats, six ashtrays, and other odd bits of bar paraphrenalia. But that would be rumo(u)r.
This is the Dew Drop Inn in Oxford, England... and you thought it was in N'Awlins, dint ya, Gentle Reader? Or Mrs. Hippy, or Alabama, or Jawja... Well, if'n ya google it you'll get 86,000 results, so there are more than a few of 'em.
Here's a tease while we're on about England...
SN1, The Lovely Miss Lynch, and YrHmblScrb in front of a big-ass pile o' rocks sitting out in the middle of a moor in the middle of nowhere. But I repeat myself. Yes, it WAS cold... why do you ask?
You... Stonehenge... It's all coming together now!
ReplyDelete(I have no idea what that means.)
Oh man that is one place I want to go - it's on my personal Bucket List. Someday....Stonehenge and I will meet and have a conversation.
ReplyDeleteI knew the bar wasn't in Arkansas. They spelled "dew" right.
ReplyDeleteJust sayin'...
The plot thickens. "The Lovely Miss Lynch" sounds like "Sweet Nell" or "Penelope Pitstop" or some other heroine.
ReplyDeleteThe lovely Miss Lynch is, indeed, a heroine of sorts. She saved us from many a boring night in Birmingham, Michigan.
ReplyDeleteGood pics Dad... I'm still digging for the other treasure I promised I'd find.
Jim: Thanks for the off-line splainin'. ;-)

Having been there a number of times I think it's best in winter, mainly because there are many, many less tourists. That said... TSMP and I always talked about driving down on either the Winter or Summer Solstice coz there's always one hella party going on there on those days (modern-day Druids and hippies and such), and it was only about an hour and a half south of us. But we never did, and I regret it.
Andy: Heh.
Lou: Sam has it right. The Lovely Miss Lynch, AKA Kim, was my next door neighbor when I moved to Dee-troit. She, TSMP, and I became fast friends and spent MANY a Friday and/or Saturday on her deck or our patio trying our best to exhaust Dee-troit's supply of Labatt's Blue. Both those women could drink me under the table and many's the night I staggered off to bed while they continued on. We had some great good times together.
Sam: Thanks!
Buck, Great pic of a happy looking crew. You guys look like you might be ready to grab your geetars and jump on the center rock and rip out some Druid Rock! Pile o' rocks indeed. I musta read a 100 freshman research papers on Stonehenge over the years. I always liked reading about it which is why it was always on the topic list. We never got there on our trip to the Emerald Isle, but we hiked out to one of the many smaller sites that resemble it. I forgot exactly where it was located. My wife kept a little diary so I'll have to look it up.

ReplyDeleteThere are MANY, Dan. The UK is an amateur historian's DREAM. I was always amazed by being surrounded by so much history while I lived there.
