Happy birthday dad... it has been a year since SN1 or I have posted. We just do not have the affinity or desire my father did for writing. I do stop in from time to time and read a bit... and wonder how long Blogger will keep this page alive. My daughter (DN2) stops in as well. My dad was a wonderful grandfather... grandpa-pa, was what he liked to be called by my girls. The memories I have of him with my daughter's are all pretty darn good... most memories are pretty darn good. I believe time doesn't really heal the loss of a parent, but it does improve the lense by which we see them; I see my father's wonderful mannrisms and hear his quirky laugh... and smile, then remember all too well that there will be no new memories.
We treasured him and keep the link alive and will until it goes dark. I would very much have liked to share a beer with your dad ......and you. Let me know if you ever plan to visit metroparkcentralis
ReplyDeleteHMS,
DeleteThank you for your kind words... I would also like to share a beer (or two) with you and reminisce about my dad. We may also share a few sea stories; I have some good ones... I'm sure you do too. Take wonderful care.
Sam
Happy Birthday Buck. You are missed, not a day goes by that I don't think on some little witticism you shared with your readers. Miss you dude. A lot.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this Commander Sam, your Dad was special.
Sarge,
ReplyDeleteYes he was... than you!
Sam,
ReplyDeleteAs an old vet, I always enjoyed hearing whatever was rambling around your Dad's brain that day. I still have his blog open in my feed as a tribute to our generation and a small way to keep the memory alive.
I lit a candle to his memory at the Grotto at Notre Dame.
Hope your family is well,
Tim Adams, USN 1983-2015
Tim,
DeleteThank you... I really appreciate your kinds words and lighting the candle; it means a lot to me. My family is great... happy, healthy and grateful for our blessings. I hope you and your family are healthy and happy as well.
With great respect,
Sam
Buck and I had some great conversations before he left this mortal coil, we did. He and I were roughly the same age (I'll be 74 in May) so had much in common generationally speaking--besides the fact we were both AF. Music was probably our common bond--brothers from a different mother he used to say.. :)
ReplyDeleteVirgil,
DeleteMy father definitely loved his music. I have a similar affinity for music and am fortunate to have received much of my father's first music collection (Vinyl and reel to reel tapes) from the 60's and 70's... music that reminds me so much of my father. I'm thankful my father had friends like you to share his passions with... sharing the finer things in life made his life better.
With great respect,
Sam
