Broadening Our Horizons XXIV
Now that a chill is in the air... it's time for a Sammy Adams Winter Lager (rated "B" by the members of Beer Advocate). Or three.
Which brings new meaning to the term "barley-pop." From Sammy Adams' web site:The cinnamon, ginger, and hint of citrus from the orange peel blend with the roasty sweetness of the malts to deliver a warming, spicy flavor.Purists will blanch. The spices, however, aren't overpowering and it takes a sophisticated palate to taste them at all. Still and even, we're halfway through this beer as we type and we LIKE it. The "warming" description isn't far off the mark and being as how MY palate was destroyed by over 40 years of cigarette smoking, I think this beer is quite pleasing. Recommended. The cigar is one of the last of my San Lotano box-pressed maduros, which just might become a regular in the humidor at El Casa Móvil De Pennington. I really, rilly LIKE this cigar!
Same cee-gar, too. We're nothing if not consistent... even in our vices.
We did the Sam Adams tour while in Boston in September. I'll have to try to find the Winter Lager -- we liked the Octoberfest.
ReplyDeleteI like the Winter Lager better than Octoberfest... if that's any help.
