This Just In...
... literally. In my in-box:
Thanks, Mitt. I'm not all that thrilled about an opportunity to fly on an airborne campaign bus, but I WOULD accept yer invite when you begin jetting around on Air Force One. Drop me a line sometime after the first of the year, mmm-kay?
Geez. I once made a joke about an election being decided by Publishers Clearinghouse. I'm scared to find that I may have been on the right track.
ReplyDeleteCloser than you know, eh?
DeleteI realized yesterday many of my voting decisions are based upon the impression I get from election materials and campaign contacts. About 90% (or more) of those contacts and materials affect me in a negative manner.
ReplyDeleteOTOH - a candidate for local office came to the door yesterday and made a good impression on GS. That's good in my book.
I wrote about this thing... a candidate stopping by and soliciting my vote, personally... in the recent past. It worked, too: he got my vote in the primary. You're otherwise correct when ya say the politics today are mostly about whose negative is more negative. I HATE that; give me a reason to vote FOR you, rather than AGAINST you.
DeleteRegarding both your point and Skip's, I'm finding the Senate race here in MA interesting. Scott Brown is the incumbent, Elizabeth Warren the challenger. Brown is a Republican, elected in a serious upset victory to fill Kennedy's seat after he passed away. Warren is a Democrat, a prof from Harvard, and very much one of Obama's house pets.
ReplyDeleteOops! I'm getting personal. Sorry!
Anyway, Brown has run one of the cleanest campaigns I have ever witnessed. He barely mentions her name, let alone saying anything negative about her. It's all about what he's done or is trying to do. On the other hand, while Warren hasn't come right out and said that Brown is a sexist, racist, misogynistic pig who would push his own grandmother in front of a train if she came out in favor of the government paying for contraception, she has been running ads that strongly hint at the same; "war on women" crap, and other divisive bullshit.
Again, my personality is coming to the fore. Excuse that, please.
What I'm getting at is that I will find the results interesting. MY WIFE, very much a socialist thinker in many ways and much more likely to vote for a Democrat and/or a woman, by default, is definitely voting for Brown. She likes his campaigning and abhors Warren's. So there you go. I hope it plays out that way across the state.
Is it your personality coming out when you're dealing facts?
DeleteUh, yeah, I guess it is if you're honest.
I hope Brown wins your race, too. As a matter of fact, I hope EVERY SINGLE DEMOCRAT running LOSES.
DeleteElizabeth Warren is ... um ... well ... I just can't use the words I want in Buck's polite space here. She lied about her Native American heritage (which, being part Native American just burns me to the core), she is a socialist and an idiot.
DeleteI'm being polite.
As it stands now, I will actually vote FOR Romney in November - it's the first time in a very long time that I will do that. It's always been a vote AGAINST the other guy. It's a refreshing feeling...
I watched a bit of Warren's speech at the DNC until I just HAD to turn it off. Liberal women just annoy the HELL outta me.
DeleteI might enter a chance if it were a plane ride to, hmm, say Hawaii or something. I don't have to go with Mitt; just a plane ticket would be nice. Na, I probably wouldn't.
ReplyDeleteIf the prize were plane tickets I wouldn't even bother to enter. I'm serious about not ever flying again.
