Sweet summer rain as viewed from under the awning on a beauteous Fourth of July...
That first pic is just before we went indoors to freshen up our Drambuie cocktail, which is to say a mixture of one-third Bonnie Prince Charles Edwards liqueur and two-thirds Glenlivet (the 12 year old variety). I find Drambuie straight up to be too damned sweet these days, but I DO love the taste.
Lest you think me unpatriotic in my choice of beverage, Gentle Reader, rest assured we consumed a fair amount of Shiner Hefeweizen (from that lil ol' brewery in Shiner, Texas) earlier in the day. And it was good.
Summer Rain! We had a bit here yesterday, too... Now we are listening/watching the neighbors grandchildren play as only kids can do on Fourth of July!
ReplyDeleteHope you have had a wonderful Fourth!
About 6 PM a storm blew in. The rain came down in sheets with winds gusting and continued on into the night. It was amazing.
ReplyDeleteWe did make it to the Baton Rouge Tea Party -- even took our dogt! It was 99 in the shade, but a goodly crowd gathered at the capitol.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try the Drambuie cocktail -- sounds interesting! Love the Waterford! A little something you picked up across the pond?
Cynthia: My Fourth was quite pleasing... and I hope yours was, as well!
ReplyDeleteLou: So I take it you guys didn't cook out last night? Yesterday's rain here was more of the gentle variety, which allowed me to sit out under the awning and enjoy the sights/sounds/smells of it. Most especially the aroma!
Moogie: It's good to hear all y'all had a good turnout.
The Waterford was a birthday gift from The Second Mrs. Pennington years and years ago. She gave me a pair of the tumblers and a bottle of good single-malt, all wrapped up in a spiffy new oxblood-colored (and oh-so-commodious) briefcase. The briefcase and the Scotch are long gone, but one tumbler remains and is a sentimental favorite. (the other met a disastrous end a couple o' few years ago) Thanks for noticing!
Ooooh, Buck, don't accidentally break the one remaining Waterford balancing it on your knee like that!!!!
ReplyDeleteTSMP can gift me anytime! You tell him, Towanda! Beware the balancing of the Waterford!

ReplyDeleteThat must be the P-ville version of a Rusty Nail...nonetheless...just a great pic. Enjoy the rain...and the tipple.
ReplyDeleteAny thing with Glenlivit should be good, especially nothing. If you can find it Shiner now has a Smokehouse brew. The barley is mesquite smoked before brewing. Really good with smoked or grilled stuff. Found it at the local ice house.
ReplyDeleteSharon: Believe me... I checked the stability of the glass VERY carefully before I even raised the camera!
ReplyDeleteMoogie: Yeah, the girl was pretty creative with her gifting.
Jay: It IS a Rusty Nail, straight up.
Santa Jim: We don't get too much of the specialty runs from any brewery in these parts, and more's the pity. But thanks for the tip; I'll keep my eyes open!
