The WheelFrom Garcia's oh-so-excellent 1972 album titled simply "Garcia." Our theme song today.
(Garcia/Hunter/Kreutzmann)
The wheel is turning and you can't slow down,
You can't let go and you can't hold on,
You can't go back and you can't stand still,
If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.
Won't you try just a little bit harder,
Couldn't you try just a little bit more?
Won't you try just a little bit harder,
Couldn't you try just a little bit more?
Round, round robin run round, got to get back to where you belong,
Little bit harder, just a little bit more,
A little bit further than you gone before.
The wheel is turning and you can't slow down,
You can't let go and you can't hold on,
You can't go back and you can't stand still,
If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.
Small wheel turn by the fire and rod,
Big wheel turn by the grace of God,
Every time that wheel turn 'round,
Bound to cover just a little more ground.

Zen. Sorta.
Prompted by an off-line conversation with a friend, recently concluded...
Saturday night, was a classic Barco fast cruise on the dock. Lotsa wine and beer, music and snacks.
ReplyDeleteHad the new fangled MP3 player hooked to the stereo. I like to literally read aloud the titles: Grateful Dead, 1969 "Jam Bands".
So the question of the evening, as we metaphorically headed into the fog;
"What indeed, would be the answer to the answer, Man?"
It sounds like your Saturday evening was MUCH better than mine, DC.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the Dead... and one NEVER speaks ill of the Dead, does one? ... If you like 'em you'll love Dick's Picks. OTOH, if you like 'em you already know about Dick's. I nearly went broke in a record shop in Eugene, OR in the way-back when I first stumbled on this series, buying every title that store had in stock at that particular moment. Simply priceless, these recordings are, when one is in a Dead sort of mood.
And... I'm not qualified to opine upon the answer to the answer, ya know. ;-)
Buck,
ReplyDeleteYou live in a veritable garden, in the wilderness. Every night should be .."One More Saturday Night". Especially in a desert town.
The Answer thing is the last line from St Stephen. I like how it drifts into "Jack Straw". Totally Kerouac-esque!.
When you need to mellow slow, I recommend Willie's Place on XM.
Spousal Unit and myself are fully self contained, we really don't need anyone else to round out the party. We do love to entertain, but not necessary for a fun weekend.
Sucks, about that frozen water debacle.
Spousal Unit and myself are fully self contained, we really don't need anyone else to round out the party...
ReplyDeleteAh... the BEST of all possible worlds, being married to your best friend. The Second Mrs. Pennington and I were exactly like that in the way-back. It's a great good thing, indeed.
That's a good song. I will have to get a copy of it.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really been to Dicks. I will check it out.
Did you ever go to Rasputin's, in Berkeley?
