... in the sense that I don't watch movies and have NO idea who these three directors are (as ID'ed in this 3:18 video)...
Could/would someone please explain what the (I'm assuming) humor is here? Coz I really, rilly, don't get it. Yet this lil vid is Numero Uno on today's "ViralVids" list.
Yeah...John Woo: Uber action movie director. Explosions, martial arts, billions of bullets, blah blah.
ReplyDeleteKevin Smith: Sorry to say it Buck, but you're just too damned old for this one. He did Clerks, Mall Rats, Dogma, etc.
Wes Anderson: The Royal Tenenbaums director. A guy who makes the movies that you like if you are in the hip, intellectual "in crowd" that expresses its intelligence by sublimating the meaning of otherwise useless material. Crap movies, highly acclaimed.
How's that?
Works for me! As I said: I'm just totally clue-free when it comes to movies. And I'm VERY likely to remain so, as well. ;-)
ReplyDeleteTo go into a little more detail...Woo is a very stylized action guy, lots of techno music, lots of slow-mo. The first bit of music is from one of his movies (I think), the second is from Black Hawk Down, and the third final snippet is from...I wanna say The Rock, but I could be wrong on that one. It's definitely Hans Zimmer, I'm just not sure if it's The Rock or Crimson Tide.
ReplyDeleteKevin Smith: no further comment, as Andy said you're just too old. His movies tend to have a lot of gratuitous Star Wars references though, in case you couldn't tell.
Wes Anderson: this type of movie tends to feature lots of awkward pauses, separated by jarringly loud post-pop "indie" music, alternated with the more unpopular Beatles songs (allows you to feel superior since you "get" the reference made by the "obscure" music.)
Thanks for the amplifications, Mike. I'd like to say both you and Andy have enlightened me, and you have, to a certain extent. But I remain a movie idiot and I'll likely stay there, too. There are just some things I don't wanna know. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOK, Buck. You got me to waste however many minutes watching this crapola and I haven't learned a thing from them. Other than there seems to be way too many junkies getting the money to make movies nowadays.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder I'm super selective about which movies I rent.
I'll never get that 3 minutes back.
