Would Someone Turn Down the Heat? Please?

It's hot...89 degrees at 1145 a.m. And it's gonna get jes a lil bit hotter before it's all over today. But it ain't as hot in P-Town as it is in some places here in the US of A...

So…I wander off to the Daily Mail’s site today to read yet another snarky article about Live Earth (“Live Earth has been branded a foul-mouthed flop”) and what do I find? Gossip about Jack Nicholson. Good gossip. With photos of Jack and friends (all female) letting it all hang out (in Jack’s case, not the friends, unfortunately) in the south of France.

I just couldn’t resist, Gentle Reader, coz I luvs me some Nicholson. Didja ever see “Five Easy Pieces?” Early Jack, CLASSIC Jack. One of his best. There sure is a world of difference between the Nicholson of 35+ years ago and the Nicholson of today. But Hey! We all get older. Would that we all could holiday in the south of France in the company of Sweet Young Thangs.

Just sayin’.

Speaking of Live Earth…Skeptical of Performers’ Motives, Public Tunes Out Live Earth Event.” No comment; I’ve wasted enough bandwidth on this subject. No, I didn’t watch…in real-time OR via streaming vid.

World Net Daily, one of the… uh …more interesting… British tabloids has a good article on Hizb ut-Tahrir, the Party of Liberation, backed up with audio clips of speeches and interviews with several Islamist radicals. It’s the audio clips that are worth the going. While the article claims “nearly 3,000” Muslims attended a rally outside a London mosque featuring radical Islamist speakers, the audience in the clips sounds like it’s composed of tens, perhaps hundreds, of people responding to the speakers’ exhortations. Still and even, this is chilling stuff.

  1. The only "Live" concert that I thought ever did what was intended was "Live AID". I watched it all day back then and was mesmerized by the performances and impromptu reunions - notably Phil Collins playing with Genesis at Wembley Arena then hopping the Concorde to play drums with Led Zeppelin in the U.S. And yes, I donated some money as well.

Live Earth - enh. I agree that it's more for their image than because they actually believe in it. Maybach indeed...

  2. I could have done without Jack shirtless. LOL! Amazing actor, then and now. We like "Goin' South", 'bout in 1978. Funny movie, him in a western.

It was nice and cool in the mountains all weekend. We even decided to stay an extra day. Was chilly last night, heavy coats by the campfire. But back to good ol' Microwave County today.

  3. Kris: I've never seen any of the three "Live" events. I had to google Live Aid to see when it happened; it's sorta interesting that I didn't watch that one, as it was the summer of '85 and I was at loose ends for the first time in my life (post-USAF retirement w/no job). Or maybe I did watch but just don't remember (unlikely).

Jenny: A long, cool weekend in the mountains sounds pretty danged good about now...

I vaguely remember "Going South." But, as noted, early Nicholson movies are my favorites. I tried to watch "About Schmidt" when it came out on DVD...and didn't make it to the end. Before that I saw "Something's Gotta Give" in an actual, honest-to-God theatre and enjoyed that (coz of Diane Keaton, in large part). SGG may be the last movie I've seen in a theatre; I know I haven't been to a movie since the ex-GF and I broke up.

  4. I love Jack Nicholson. Loved him as the Joker in Batman. Loved him in Goin' South - one of my favorites. He is just such a good bad boy.

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
