Independence Day

We’re celebrating the birth of our nation all over America today…in cities, towns, and villages…large, small and in-between. There will be parades, speeches, street dances, bar-b-ques, and flags galore. And tonight we’ll ooh and ahh over the pyrotechnic displays, as we do every year. It’s a wonderful occasion, a time to celebrate our greatness and our goodness. We’ve done wonderful and marvelous things over the past 231 years and we’ll do continue to do great things as we move into the 21st century. We 300 million people who live in this country are uniquely privileged to call ourselves “Americans” and have every right to be proud of what we’ve built and continue to build.

Celebrate!

Happy Birthday, USA. May there be many, many more.

Today's Pics were taken July 4, 2004 at the Eastern New Mexico University baseball field.

  2. I'm hoping I can get some equally as good pics with my new camera.

We are having dinner at the inlaws, then all driving into town to see the fireworks display. Not sure where we will park to see them just yet. I imagine the baseball field and arena will be packed.

  3. Jenny: If it's not too late...you can park at my place if you like. Easy entry/exit, no traffic, yadda, yadda. I set my camp chairs up on my car hauler and have a completely unobstructed view of the proceedings. The beer's free, too.

You'll need to bring a couple of camp chairs if you decide to come -- I only have two serviceable chairs and one that should have been pitched in the dumpster by now, but hasn't.

    Let me know!!

  4. Ah man, I want to come too. You know how I hate to miss a party and it sounds like just my sort of thing. Oh well, I guess I will have to make a party here in OK. Have a great 4th!

  5. Buck, I didn't get back on the 'puter til this morning. But thanks so much for the offer! We did go (dragging my inlaws with us, too), found a good spot to part at the arena and sat on the west side of it on that big ol' grassy hill. Was a perfect spot (but yours would have had BEER! LOL!). If you are still here next year, we may have to plan that.

  6. Spent the day on Block Island, Rhode Island. Tiny place - 600 year round residents, but it balloons enourmously in the summertime. It was busy and crowded and a total blast. Watched a good ole fashioned parade, complete with floats, bands and a moving color guard. Posters too, which said things like "Peace isn't a vigil, Thank Our Troops".

The whole island was decorated in red, white & blue, as were many of the people and their pets. It was a beautiful day spent with dear friends in celebration of our nation's birth.

This is what life is really all about.

That and Frozen Mudslides served from a Slurpee machine. Yowza!

  7. Jenny: If you'd been here I probably wouldn't have wimped out... I went inside when it began raining harder than a sprinkle, so I missed about half of the show. But, like you say: "Next year!" I'll more than likely be here.

Lou: Did all y'all have fireworks?

Kris: TSMP and I spent a wonderful Fourth in a small Rhode Island town one year, but I can't remember it's name. SN2 was in Surface Warfare Officer school in Newport at the time and he and Alisa (the d-i-l) took us to this small town that supposedly has the country's biggest Fourth of July parade. And it probably was, based upon the sheer length of the parade. We left before the last marching element was in sight...

Mud Slides from a Slurpee machine? Yowza, indeed! ;-)

Just be polite... that's all I ask.
