Thanks for the kind words about the DJing...I appreciate that.

And how could I forget The Mud Flats? I'm sure TFMP remembers them, too... even though she never saw 'em, I'm quite sure she remembers the SMELL we brought back home after riding there. Ah...the stuff we did to prove our manhood, eh? ;-)

Sam: Good points about the peace thingie. But... just to clarify, that poster was on the wall to tweak the noses of the right-wingers of the day, probably the very same folks who go on about "dirty smelly hippies" these days. Keep in mind: I was of the moonbat political persuasion at that point in time.

re: those radio show tapes from Turkey. Not my best. I wish someone had taped a show or three without my knowing it. There was more than a little self-consciousness in play when I queued up a tape for the express purpose of recording myself. My best moments were when I was completely spontaneous, but I suppose that's true for everyone, eh?

Lou: Didja know Ol' Nan and I share the same birthday? She's five years older than I, tho. I can relate to your Mom about aging kids, LOL!

Jenny: No apology required; you were right the first time. Not all hippies had long hair, ya know. ;-)Buckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05319116022465066060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18232353.post-38303807593471114002008-01-25T08:05:00.000-07:002008-01-25T08:05:00.000-07:00Yes, I guess the peace business IS what you do! I suppose some of the ideas I get regarding the psychadelic peace posters are hippie war protesters from the 60s that I see in the movies and the tube. Like Meathead in "All in the Family". Of course, good friends can make even the worse circumstances the best.

My mom and I had an arguement last night over how old Nancy Pelosi was. Mom thought she was 50. I was aghast and said, "No, I'm 50!" I think Mom is aghast to have a daughter who is (almost) 50.

I'm very proud of you for quitting smoking.Bag Bloghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01885412195900280096noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18232353.post-48811554048277385602008-01-24T22:10:00.000-07:002008-01-24T22:10:00.000-07:00I don't think the peace sign is ironic at all... t...I don't think the peace sign is ironic at all... that's what the military does, ensure no one in their right minds would EVER want to do anything to cross us.

We are in the peace business.

Any who... I have listened to some of Dad's tapes from Turkey, good radio shows; my favorite is then one where you played Led Zeplin 4 for the first time. Buck could control the mood of the site with his selection of music and he had the largest following of any of the DJ's on the staff. I had more fun than what's probably legal. Some day we should describe some of the bike trips, like that trail that went behind Wakkani, you remember? the one through the swamp.Dan Stackenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09035220766185836543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18232353.post-39310760642813994782008-01-24T16:34:00.000-07:002008-01-24T16:34:00.000-07:00The dorm room does look tiny and you can tell two ...The dorm room does look tiny and you can tell two men live there;) Congratulations on the year without cigarettes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18232353.post-34754494171457145512008-01-24T13:07:00.000-07:002008-01-24T13:07:00.000-07:00The dorm room may look tiny, but believe me...we l...The dorm room may look tiny, but believe me...we lived a LOT better than our Army counterparts. And yeah, we were inspected. Not often, and not closely ("white glove" didn't exist in our world), but inspected, none the less.

That IS a reel-to-reel...an Akai X-330D, IIRC. SN2 has my last reel-to-reel recorder and 100+ tapes. One of the bennies that came with working at the radio station there was taping their record library...that reel-to-reel spent nearly ALL of its life in record mode during that year.

That whole WALL was decorated with black-light posters, Jenny. Remember: we're talking 1971 - 72, here.Buckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05319116022465066060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18232353.post-23299458217312649742008-01-24T12:41:00.000-07:002008-01-24T12:41:00.000-07:00That dorm room was tiny! I think my father still has a stereo just like that one (and there was a glare, but was that a reel to reel next to it? My dad still has one of those, too!).Jennyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10967546226890745086noreply@blogger.com
