Wow, you can say THAT again... this is one of the best first-rounds I've seen in years, what with only one sweep in the first round and ALL of the match-ups going to a Game Six out west. You're blessed with all that hockey in your neck of the woods. That was also true for me when I lived in Deetroit... college hockey, lots of amateur leagues, and the local-access cable channels carried pee wee and mite hockey, as well. It's SUCH a hoot to watch the five and six year olds go at it, even if one of your kids aren't playing. I DO miss that, but like you say... there are compensations in the sunsets, good weather (even tho I complain ALL the time about the wind), and most of all: the people.

re: Your point about Subies built in in TN, Cadillacs in Mexico, etc. Not only that, but I've read that something like 40% of the content of GM, Ford, and Chryslers built in the US contain outsourced (foreign) parts... from Canada, Mexico, Japan, Germany, etc. Globalization is here to stay, like it or not.

Ashley sez: Not that owning something that is not American made is un-American.

Other folks DO feel that way, unfortunately. I drove a furrin car when I moved to Deetroit and went to work for EDS, a subsidiary of GM at the time. I left my car at work and checked out a pool car whenever I had to visit a GM plant. Coz MY car would get keyed if I parked it in a GM lot. Those UAW guys can be (or were) pretty hard-core about that "Buy American" thing. It may have changed since I left Detroit, but I kinda doubt it.

Lin sez: I really think it is that right-brain dominance thing again. And it's not JUST the Left, either, although they tend to take the "art form" to dizzying heights, especially where bumper stickers are concerned. There are MANY more than a few knee-jerk haters on the Right, as well. Not good.

Pat sez: ...and give them my best "F-U" smile and wave

When I was up in Santa Fe a couple of years ago two kids in an older (much older) Mustang went out of their way to pull up alongside me and give me the single-digit salute because of my ONE sticker on my wind blocker. We are getting some great hockey!!! I know you have complained about what hockey coverage you get there in P-ville. We get a good showing here but mainly Eastern Conference teams.
