It won’t be long before people in the four-season part of the world will be seeing this sort of tableau. Alas, such is NOT the case here on The High Plains of

SN3 got his first USAF ID card this past week and The Second Mrs. Pennington was good enough to send along a scan:
She also included the following information…
He wears a men's size 10-1/2 in tennis shoes and a men's 10 in hiking boots. I kid you not. He weighs about 130 and I think must be about 5'2" now.
To which I replied, in part: “Holy Shit! … Still: amazing. It's not beyond the pale to think he could kick my ass if he had a mind to do so.”
I don’t think this would be feasible any longer. Maybe not even possible!
Taken in April of 1997. I'm just in from work, which explains the get-up.

I agreed with McCain 12 out of 13 times ... and I didn't even think I was a strong McCain supporter.
ReplyDeleteWho knew?
Ooops, I forgot ... SN3 is just adorable....he's going to be breaking hearts in a few years (if he isn't already...)
ReplyDeleteThey just grow up too darn fast, don't they?
Love autumn; my favorite season. I'd go nuts living somewhere it didn't turn a bit cool and colorful in October.
ReplyDeleteNope, we don't get much of a fall, do we. One day the leaves are there, the next on the ground. You MAY get a brown out of them, but no reds, yellows or orange here.
ReplyDeleteWow, SN3 could squash you if he had a mind to! Handsome boy, though.
I can't believe SN3 has gotten so big. It just seems like it was the other day that you were buying him some bike gear to ride with you. Now, you better wait until he is "fully growed" or he will just out-grow things before he has gotten the wear out of them.
ReplyDeleteYou clean up pretty good Buck!
ReplyDeleteNice lookin' young man there too!
P.S. I was afraid to take that test, but did, and I am who I say I am!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in upstate New York, where the autumn was a blaze of color. Then I got married and moved to California and then San Antonio, Texas, and every year my Mom would pick out a few of the most colorful and perfect leaves and mail them to me. I would hang them in my house and enjoy them until they dried out and crumbled away.
ReplyDeleteJenny and Buck, I thought of that memory when I read your posts ... I wish I could gather some quaking aspen leaves for you when they get colorful and mail them to you - but I am not sure they would be as impressive as those big colorful maple leaves were.
Fall has always been my favorite time of year as well, more so when I lived in MN.
ReplyDeleteThere is one street around here that has a bunch of maple trees that turn beautiful colors, so I drive that way home as much as I can once they begin changing.
I took that same quiz earlier today and agreed with McCain 9 out of 13 as well.
Living in New England, I'm starting to get very excited about the impending autumn. Some leaves are already turning - experts say it's going to be a spectacular autumn this year. I can't wait!
ReplyDelete12 out of 13 I agreed with McCain - wicked shocka! ;-)
Here, the leaves change color and fall in December/January. Then the new leaves bud in March.
ReplyDeleteI well remember the thrill of getting my first ID card! Even though my parents said it was my birthday "present", so they didn't get my anything else!
Y'all's fall sounds about like our fall. Leaves go straight from green to brown to on the ground.
ReplyDeleteI agreed with McCain on 11 out of 12 statements, but then I already knew that.
Bobby --er excuse me, Robert is so cute!
(Dang, what's wrong with me? I typed "recuse me" and had to go back and correct it!)
Sharon: You did better on the quiz than I did. I was a lil bit leery of the quiz, given its MSM source, and was somewhat amused to see I agree with The One on four issues... or what he supposedly said, anyway.
ReplyDeleteUpstate NY is beautiful in Fall, and there are just so many places to go for Fall color. One of my faves was Letchworth State Park... a small gem of a park with spectacular views. And then there's the whole Finger Lakes area... another beautiful destination an hour or less from Rochester. I get those tugs on the heart-strings every year around this time...
Jim: We get the "turn cool" bits here, but NO color, to speak of.
Jenny sez: Wow, SN3 could squash you if he had a mind to! Handsome boy, though.
True, dat! The pic was kinda-sorta good for an ID card, methinks.
Lou sez: I can't believe SN3 has gotten so big. It just seems like it was the other day that you were buying him some bike gear to ride with you.
Yep... a lil over a year ago, that was. His helmet and perhaps the gloves might still fit.
Mushy sez: You clean up pretty good Buck!
Well... I used to... ;-)
Susan: Fall Color in SoCal? I don't remember it, LOL! Those maples might of been planted by Mid-West transplants, ya think?
Kris sez: Living in New England, I'm starting to get very excited about the impending autumn. Some leaves are already turning - experts say it's going to be a spectacular autumn this year. I can't wait!
I envy you your Fall... no doubt about that. But not what follows, LOL!
Christina sez: I well remember the thrill of getting my first ID card! Even though my parents said it was my birthday "present", so they didn't get my anything else!
That doesn't sound very fair!! I told TSMP I remembered getting my first ID card, as well, and I was about the same age as SN3. You don't forget things like that.
Becky sez: Y'all's fall sounds about like our fall. Leaves go straight from green to brown to on the ground.
Except we skip the "brown" part, most of the time. Green-to-ground is usually our story.
Autumn is lovely. I remember when I was a kid my parents told me that if you catch the Fall leaves when blown from the trees you can make a wish. Got me out of the house for most of the season.
ReplyDelete11 of 13 with McCain, but to be honest, with half of those answers, if I grabbed the potential questions correct, I would be wayyyyyyy far to the right of the answers given by either.
ReplyDeleteBuck -- Oooooh....Letchworth State Park ... great place in every season of the year, but fall is particularly gorgeous there, isn't it? I miss it.
ReplyDeleteIt's always disappointing to be reminded we have been deprived of *any* way of voting nay on the global warming swindle. Of course, science is not about voting. Then again, science doesn't support global warming very well at all lately. Yet our two potential "leaders" seem to have their minds made up.
ReplyDeleteI'm down with your guy twelve out of thirteen times. That's three notches more than you. Hope you keep that in mind next time you catch me talking some smack.
Great picture, there. You look better in that get-up than I do. The young man looks less than impressed. Must be nap time.
In addition to global warming, we don't get to vote on illegal immigration either.....it seems it is not even being DISCUSSED this presidential election cycle. A year or so ago, I would have thought it would have been the #1 issue in the country.
ReplyDeleteI REALLY liked lauching Obama into space at the end of the quiz - if only it were that simple!
ReplyDeleteMichelle sez: Autumn is lovely. I remember when I was a kid my parents told me that if you catch the Fall leaves when blown from the trees you can make a wish. Got me out of the house for most of the season.
ReplyDeleteI'd never heard the "catch a leaf" thing before. Thanks for that!
Pat sez: ...I would be wayyyyyyy far to the right of the answers given by either.
I figured that out a while ago, Pat. I think you and Genghis Khan would have had a lot in common. ;-)
Morgan sez: It's always disappointing to be reminded we have been deprived of *any* way of voting nay on the global warming swindle. Of course, science is not about voting. Wow... do I EVER agree with you on the Global Warming point. I'm not naïve enough to think I'll ever agree with ANY politician 100% of the time, but this particular issue has some SERIOUS ramifications for both our economy and the way we live our everyday lives. McCain disappoints in this space.
And... talking smack? Vous? And calling you on it... Moi? G'wan... ;-)
As for the pic... Mushy said it best: I (used to) clean up fairly well.
Sharon: It's amazing one isn't hearing hardly anything on the subject of immigration, but both McCain and The One have "positions," such as they are, on their web sites. I agree: what a difference a year makes.
Cynthia: YES! That was fun, wasn't it? Made me smile!
